Lights came in the mail on Thursday so I started on them that same evening.

I had to make small holes to mount the taillight ( at the same height as the taillight on the bike ) but for the indicator I had to make 50 mm hole

Same at the front, there already was a hole for the white light but no hole for the indicator so there I went again, making another big hole in the sheetmetal

All worked out very well luckily, wired it all up and it's all working

Also put the widebeam light on the lower bracket between bike and tub.

Now waiting for the paint on the spacers for the hinges to dry so I can finish working on the lid ( which now has a neoprene band on the inside for waterproofing ).

DDR plate is over the holes for the original taillight

Lid's ready, hinges, lock and all.

Going for a ride this sunny afternoon to see wether it makes a lot of noise. Without the lid there was quite some resonance, maybe I have to stick some Dynamat to the inside.

Been working on the Beemer as well.

Bought a fibreglass Hienrich lookalike ( brand unknown )

Had to make a bracket for the rear where it now rests on the original rubbers ( fibreglassed it into the tunnel ) and change the front bracket that came with the tank ( it's for an older type of BMW ).

Coils could be placed in the tunnel on top of the framerail

Had to change the rear upperbracket again

and have the seat changed to fit the bigger tank, will be back somewhere this week.

Got a call 2 days ago that the tank was ready, filled and painted:

So i put it on the bike today to see how it looks now............

............... I LOVE IT

Now I can pohotoshop kneepads and striping to see what it will look like.

I think I'll have the kneepads painted on instead of sticking homemade pieces of rubber on it.

Been looking at John's Beemer garage on the "Tanks"page for inspiration:

CLICK

Had to take some sheetmetal out of the ears for the headlight ( of course this was the trailversion, they now look decent, with straight edges and neat corners ):

Went to a meeting last Sunday with over 700 bikes, mine was the only one not washed and polished

Had a blast with that little MZ working so hard for me, always makes me think of this childrensbook

Arriving:

I loaded two chairs in the tub and we "picknicked" next to the bike ( my mate was on his Enfield, we were amongst R1's and Z 750/Z100's )

Kicking it back to life:

Never forget your cigar:

Do you gays have that same experience. You drive your bike like the 27 year old you used to be and wonder who that greybearded old guy is in the pics ( or carwindow of the car next to you at the trafficlights ) ?

Leaving ( and yes I know I'm too big for this bike but I dont care, it stole my heart )

Got the seat back, it's been altered to fit the new big tank.
Fits perfect, nicely snug inside the high tunnel.

"Kneepads" are black pieces of paper I cut as a mockup for the shape. I think this will be how they will be. Tank needs pinstriping of course, will be similar to this:

Pic borrowed from John's Beemer Garage

In black of course

I think I'll go without the sidecovers, they are too square right next to the rounded shape of the big tank. Battery wil be black ( thin sheets of black metal )

It will sport a small black Jawa Perak luggagerack on the rearfender. I'll make a bracket so it can be bolted to the 2 bolts that hold the rearfender.

I have an appointment with a local guy that works at a stickershop, he's going to make the "kneerubbers" out of stickerfoil as well as the striping.
Will be ready Fridayafternoon/ Saturdaymorning.

Put the tank on today, connected all the fuelhose, plugged in an extra in-line fuelfilter and started the old compressor, very nice to hear it run again.

Was even better driving it a couple of miles to check everything

Fuelcock is leaking on "off" and "reserve", threads are terrible so I ordered a new one.

I leave the sidepanels off, my wife sanded and painted the subframe and framerails that come into sight black. I sandblasted the batterytray and sparypainted it black ( as well as the battery itself, was a white one )

Luggagerack is also mounted.

Piccies, just for fun

Time for a little update I see

Had the stickers put on the tank by the stickershop. He did a great job. BMW logo in metal on the tank too

Found a /5 headlightbar:

Cool pic:

Here's a periodcorrect navigationsystem

Last weekend tug and hack were divoced ( but it was a friendly seperation )

Took it to the garage of a friend of mine ( 2 hours drive ) for a Leading Link.

This is the way it looks now, waiting for the work to begin:

Suspension will be these "brand unknown" shocks which will be painted black/silver like the old Earls shocks:

Braking will be by the sexiest callipers around ( 6 pot Grimeca's ):

Leading Link will be made along the same lines as the one he built for his own "Goldwing"hack:

MZ got a new coat of paint in Fordson Grey:

To keep part of the patina I put some coats of clear laquer on the front. I ride this hack in winter so it does need good rustprevention.

It snowed last weekend ( all gone now ) so I went out playing

Hope to show you more pics of the LL soon !

Erwin Hellracer, Erwin

But yes, that's why I waited for him to finish his house first. LL's were supposed to be built last winter but his workshop was full of buildingtools and stuff from his house. I wanted to ride this summer so I waited untill now
