New Kawasaki Versys 1000 in 2012 - Page 31

There is a v 1000 here at the dealership in the green/brown color. Sweet bike. For a small fee I can go buy it, you can fly up here and ride back.

I am new to this thread and have enjoyed reading through it. I bought my 1000 Versy,s this summer, after getting a deal I could not refuse on a trade. So far I have 5000 kms and am feeling comfortable with the bike. It is easy to ride, but when you want to pick up the pace it will go. It is like owning 2 bikes 1 under 5000rpm and another over 5000rpm I find it very managable on dirt roads even with a 17 inch front. I credit this to it feeling lots lighter than its true weight. I will be putting skid plate on over the winter. My only complaints are that it is much too quiet and I can't hear the bike good enough. This might be fixed with a better windshield, like lots of bikes the Versy's is better with no windshield at all than the one the factory installed. I toured another bike (klr 650) all over the Yukon and British columbia this year and I think touring will be even better on this bike in 2013 ......Steve

Agree with that. I love mine, and will be mail ordering some stuff from A Vicious Cycle over the winter - guards and centre stand, maybe some luggage. I have a 2005 KLR and for most of what I do, the Versys 1000 would do it better. Think I noted earlier that it might just replace the KLR and my 2003 FZ1, but not my KLX400R. Two bikes in one for sure!

The Ducati MS gets good reviews, and I'm sure is more sophisticated, for sure more hip, but the V1000 gets the job done for a bit more than half the price. Hard to beat that if cost is any concern at all.

Has had one on the showroom floor all year. Only $11,000. Hell of a deal. If only it had a 19 inch front wheel. Kawi probably could have sold thousands of them.

Probably. But I haven't found it to be a serious lack, and I probably ride gravel more regularly than most - and have a KLR and KLX for comparison. The 17" wheel just hasn't been that much of an issue.

I'm so jealous. Sure wish Kawasaki would bring the Versys 1000 to the US.

I have to agree I feel quite confident on the gravel even wagging the back wheel out a little. Soft gravel would be no fun I think. This bike for me is what the class "sport tourer" means. I like the fjr and the concours but am to old for the riding position, This bike will carry a ton and I am comfortable for long distance, but can still get a thrill blasting around town like a kid on a sport bike. for 11,200 nothing else seemed to come close

I just noticed you are from the yukon, I was up there for June this year, what a great place. I thought of the Yukon when I bought the versys 1000 and if there was anywhere I would not go that I took my klr to and I was up the dempster a ways and it would of been no problem on the versys. The only thing that would sway my purchase up there is the great Yamaha dealer you have in Whitehorse. They gave me great service while I was there...
I would love ducati ms too..just to park in my livingroom for the winter to look at

Dempster would be fine on the Versys 1000, but I'd put a rad guard on for sure. South Canol would also be fine, North Canol, not so much, but that's significantly rougher. You could do it, but I'd rather take something else - like my Jeep, frankly, since packing enough fuel on a bike is an issue.

The Yamaha dealer is great, but so is Listers, who are Kawasaki and Suzuki - I think their mechanics are better overall. Honda/KTM dealer, not so sure, good parts, but haven't really used their service as all I bought from them was a Ski-Doo. They did take a buddies early model KTM Adventure back though, when it proved to be essentially unfixable, seemed the first couple years had lots of issues, so that was good of them.

Lots of great roads, and side roads, I'm going to explore some of the side trails off the South Canol this summer - Sydney Creek, Groundhog Creek, etc. Way too many places to go, and I keep saying I'll spend some time on side trails off the Stewart-Cassiar instead of blitzing south...

Yes, armor it up and your good. Motorcycle mojo said it as surprisingly good on dirt roads. Clinton smout even aired it out for the camera. I ride the v650 and the v1000 is in the same catagory, a true all round'r

Three months of winter down. Four months to go until riding season (depending). Getting a little...restless...here. Don't even have a place to work on adding a centre stand, rad guard, etc. over the winter. AHHHHGGGGHHHHH! Hope others are doing better.

It's been tested by the EPA, It's sold in Canada and Mexico. I keep hoping it's just a matter of time before it's here.

If they can keep it within $500 of the n1k and offer ABS I can't see why I wouldn't buy one.
