Hey guys, I am kind of an expert on these tubes. The mounting tabs are not made to withstand off road riding or carrying all the weight of fuel. You can grind the tabs off and attach the tubes directly to one of your frame bars with large hose clamps if you want to use it for that purpose. I am running a holiday special on these tubes and definitely have the best deal on them. You get 2 tubes shipped to your door USPS Priority insured for only $22.99 Agri Supply charges ridiculous shipping on them. Here is my group buy thread in the vendors section: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=841622 btw: I have sold panniers and helmets in bulk on advrider before and have a great reputation so no need to worry about integrity. Thank You, Jeff

I mount mine on my skid plate full of tools. Did the beginning and the end of the WABDR flawlessly. Still in one piece. The one I keep mounted yearly, not problems been on for 1 1/2 yearso far. The only one I've broke was when I crashed on it. My $.02

Nice Job! I have not seen those plumbing stoppers before - that's a perfect solution.

The tube is 3" PVC with a cap glued on, painted black and a pressure test plug on the other end, all available at the hardware store. The plate is the remnant of an old street sign. The clamps come from McMaster-Carr; search for cushion clamps and select the size to fit the OD of your pipe. |

Nice. And it looks like you can easily remove a fair section of the plug bolt - or put a hole through it and place a small padlock to hinder hoodlums from tinkering with the wingnut.

CPVC grey
I used thin-walled grey CPVC. The pipe and fittings both have thinner walls so the end bulges are thinner than some I've seen. Then I replaced the big wing nut with a phillips/slotted screw. If I lose the screwdriver in the regular tool kit then any key or scrap of metal can open this.

It holds 17" and 21" tubes, tire irons, aluminum bicycle pump, and the heavier of my tools. So I didn't want it with the other luggage.
Plumbing sizes are all nominal and a thin-walled pipe fits the same fittings as a thick-walled pipe. I.e. thin walled has a larger ID for the same named size.
