I thought you were getting your info from the Mayans . . . aren't they the ones who told you I have nothing to worry about?

Hey MikeMike or anyone else that knows!

What is the living conditions, Pros and Cons of Tampico, MX? Looking for a place with year round moderate temperatures, plus close to the border. Tampico looks pretty good by the Weather Channel info. Of course, what are all of the other conditions like. I have ridden through the town several years ago and remember a combination of good/orderly locations and some not so good and at times in close proximity to each other. I think that I also saw some Suzuki DL650s being used as police motos. Thanks!

Donnie

Lousy service. Good music sometimes. That's always been my experience with the Green Parrot but that is indeed a popular place.

I used to really enjoy Maragaritaville Key West but that was years ago. Now it's overcrowded most of the time and much of their really good food has vanished from the menu. Now Margaritaville New Orleans is the only Margaritaville that goes back to the early days of being a small bar with good music and good food.

With almost 300 bars on an island 2 miles x 3 miles there is plenty of variety. I guess that the closest thing that I have found to a laid back watering hole is Capt. Tony's when the tourists have left.

I have been to Tampico a few times and really enjoyed it. All of my tour books said that the beaches were lousy but the dirty little secret is that in the last few years some nice resorts have been built there. Downtown has two vibrant walking shopping areas near each other, and several town squares. It's probably a little warmer there than just "moderate" - when you cross the river you are getting into the coffee and banana plantation areas and it's quite hot in the summer in Veracruz.

Hey, PJ, one of my relatives owns and/or operates a bar down in KW.

Could you please let me know the next time you head down there so I can forward them a mug shot and warn them appropriately?

I haven't decided whether I should warn them to stock up or lock the doors.

I like Tampico, but I like Veracruz better. However, since distance to the border is important to you, Tampico would be a better fit. I wouldn't really consider summer temps moderate, though.

Never knew you Aussies actually spoke real English. Quite auspicious meeting you Trev. My knowledge of your culture has expanded.

Planning to sneak over to Santa Rosalia from Guaymas at the end of January then head north to AZ. I'll probably stay south of the border to return home to Banamichi. Keeping the fingers crossed for calm and clear weather for the crossing.

Saludos mi amigo,

In Tequila now. And tonight, tequila will be in me!

I met a one-percenter at a fuel stop today... Nicest guy you've ever met! He's a member of the "Renegados" and within 5 mins of meeting him he'd given me the low-down on the bike clubs in Mexico "all are friendly except maybe Santa Morte". Easy to identify them, the have a skull and skeleton on the colors.

Next thing, he gave me a list of name and phone numbers of maybe 20 guys in just about every state. "Just call if you have a problem, they will help you or find someone that can." A nice safety net for the solo moto traveller in Mexico eh?

This thread should be titled "Is Mexico SAFER than the US?"
