That's odd - I just checked on my installation (a Mac, but sizes should be similar) and City Navigator 2013.30 takes up less than 3 gigabytes. Likely you'd need double that initially for installation, but 30 gig is a bit more than necessary. But you may want to offload some of your drive's contents anyway to backup devices. A full hard drive never works well.

After reading MANY pages I'm wondering...

If you had it to do over again, would you buy the Montana?

I have several (7 or 8) Garmins From the GPS III to the ZUMO 665 and all have been good tools. I just went to the ATV dark side and really don't need all the features of the ZUMO 665 on a Quad. I tried using my 276C but that's way to big to keep in one place, I can't keep in from turning and twisting on the Ram/Touratech mount.

Would a Montana be the answer I'm looking for?

Yes.

I want/need a GPS that will do good road navigation, but that also has excellent support for off-road tracks.

My prior unit was a 60cx. The two issues I have with it are speed (it's slow) and readability of the small screen, especially in sunlight.

The Montana has everything I need, and I have not found any Achilles' heel yet.

Yes, certainly. It's an awesome device - the best there is right now and probably for some time, IMHO.

Yes I'd buy it again. This is my first gps and I held off for over a year after it was released, partially to let the bugs get sorted out but also because I felt my iphone worked fine for mapping. I've really enjoyed the Montana and having a map in front of me is much better than digging the iphone out of my pocket all the time. It's really changed the way I ride.

On gpscity.com there are pics of a user with the larger RAM ball mounts, the 1.5". I went with this and it's rock solid. No movement and it doesn't take a lot of pressure to lock it down. I'd suggest you try this RAM mount first since it may be all you need. If you decide to grab a Montana you'll already have everything but the amps mount.

Montana = 10.2 OZ (+ 4 0r 5 OZ for the AMPS mount)
276 C = 24 OZ (with Touratech mount)

That and the fact the 276C is WAY out from the RAM arm socket gives that 24 Oz a lot of leverage.

EDIT: to give you and idea of how much that 276c moves around the max speed was 326 MPH... I was going faster than I thought!

Looking for a mount for a Montana. Preferably a shockproof / waterproof type of thing, that mounts kinda 'dakar' style; or better put - right over my front number plate, not on a ram mount off to the side. I remember a company out of Florida I think that made billet mounts that attached to the top clamp and looked kinda cool, putting the GPS right above the stock speedo on a KTM 530. Does anybody remember the name of the company, or another company making a similar product? I've seen the ones from touratech / enduro engineering. They look cool, but I have not really seen too many of them actually mounted on a dual sport bike, especially one with a steering stabilizer, etc.

Any help? Pics would be great

i'm leaning towards buying a Montana.

i'm skeptical.

i have a 76csx and a 276c. if i get a Montana, the 276 is going up for sale, but i need to know the Montana is tits.

i will always have my 76 for back up.

I don't need the camera, so I was just going to get the base model. Other than the camera and the preloaded software, that is the only difference right?

It's not 0.5 gig more. It's more like 4 gig more, but the Topo maps take up most of the space.

And for $40 more for the camera model, it doesn't make sense to cheap out. It takes decent geotagged pictures which are waypoints you can navigate back to, and share wirelessly to others with similar modern Garmin units like the Oregon, Dakota, 62/78 etc. And the camera's waterproof too, so to me that's a bargain.
