And the F800 can do even better with fuel. I once looked at a F800S at a dealership while I owned the Ninja 650R, and asked around some.. then read a long term report in a german magazine about both.. and the running costs were double for the F800S. A Bandit 1250S (GSX1250FA) was actually between the two. So I forgot about it.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking at it now, it was 07/2007.. just 2,5 months after I got my 650R (and put like 5k miles on it in the meantime). Was actually considering trading up after only 2,5 months.. and I was happy with the 650R.. then. ![]() Excuse the semi-hijack.

I like it...
....if I didn't own my V-Strom 650, this bike would be in the garage in its place.
I like the idea of a lighter GT bike. While I really admire the C14, FJR1300, Trophy, et. al., they are just too damn big for my tastes. The idea of an 800cc machine with great fuel economy, zero maintenance belt or shaft drive, and light weight enough that I can actually pick it up, sounds fantastic. Cheers.

There is a line a motoring journalist mate of mine quotes & it goes something like "extra spend on power you appreciate once in a while, extra spend on suspension you appreciate every day." Translated it means you don't need to ride "hard" to feel the difference, better suspension is just better at all speeds.

My '94 R1100RS was number 80 in the US with a Mfg date of 3/93. John, I think the May '93 release date was worldwide, but not USA. I remember the GS was available in the US before the RS...but who really cares! You had a Beta RS as well, didn't you?

I did, serial number 1323.....one of best bikes I've ever owned. Hardly a single issue with it.

FWIW I was a photojourno on the Aus launch of the R1100RS & it was launched as a stand alone model. The Germans spun the line that the GS series would stay as two valve carb equipped bikes 'cos the likely owners of on/off road bikes shunned power, weight & complexity in favour of a bike that can be fixed with fence wire in the outback. Funny in hindsight.

Well to my eye it looks like you have a '86 K100LT & a '90 ST1100. Why call them a year younger than what they are?

I've got a F800ST. The changes between the St and the "GT" are so minuscule I'm not even sure why they even changed the name. A tiny stretch on the swingarm, lower fairing piece, and the system cases (which I'd like on my bike over the sport cases), and all of a sudden they have a new "model".

Read that its $13,190.00 for the GT with the Comfort and Safety Packages; personally looking forward to reading up on Real World test rides/reports and taking one of these of an extended demo ride.
