Ah, yes... The SR-71 "Black Bird".

But wasn't it used for very secret insertion and incursion missions *behind* the lines?

And IIRC wasn't there usually two *guys* in it, one *behind* the other?

Yep, sounds like black Super Tenere riders to me!

Almost. The SR-71 was a solo cockpit for photogrammetry. The YF-12 was the "interceptor" version with 2-seats, and air-to-air missiles instead of cameras. The NASA version shown above was neither, but was a research platform and seems to have been based on the YF-12 variant.

Variations seem to be the common theme.

Mistaken assumptions once again come with blue balls, I guess.

There was NOTHING secret once the SR-71 came out of the factory or hangar. Between the noise and radar signature, the only thing it had to keep from being shot down were insurmountable altitude and airspeed.

And like the black Tenere, it was always surrounded by rare air.

Perhaps some were flown solo, but if so...

What's an RSO*?

And what's he do? And how come so many of them have as many hours as some of the "pilots"?

And how is it that it is the SR-71 that is referred to as a "two-seat" aircraft?

Oh, I know what an RSO is... I just wondered if anybody else did.

Flying the SR-71 was apparently a pretty *full-time* task, requiring the pilot to concentrate wholly on the airplane. The RSO handled all the other mission duties...

Knowing where the enemy is, how many there are, what they’re doing, how they’re supplied and what kind of support they have can give our forces a distinct edge. As an Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operator, you’ll gather that information as part of an aircrew using various classified techniques and equipment. The success of a mission can hinge on having the right information at the right time, and it will be your job to make sure it arrives on time.

Rides in Review 2012

It's a Snowy mess out so I'm just sitting here reviewing the rides I made in 2012 and dreaming of the ones I want to take next year.

Trip to Arkansas with my son.
.
.

Trip to Colorado with my Beautiful Wife.
.
.

Trip around Lake Superior with Wife ,Daughter and her hubby .
.
.

Trip to Moab to ride the W.R.T. with friend Matt.
.
.

And a cold weather December camping trip to Missouri with Matt.
.
.
I've been a biker my whole life starting in the dirt, lots of street biking and long trips touring with my wife,[we rode a bike to YellowStone on our Honeymoon ] This bike has really got me excited again about riding, The best bike I have ever riden by far! I have over 40,000 miles on it and it has been totally dependable and no problems with it at all. I just checked the valves for the first time and that was a waste of time ,[ they were all spot on ] This bike can take me places that only a real dirt bike could do, and it will even take us two up to them places.
Hope to see you all on the roads next summer. Steve
