Re: below

So now the TVIP and Tourist permit are aligned at 180 days? What was the limit on the tuourist permit before this?

I'm a bit embarrassed that a bunch of pasty white white boys have traveled more and know more about the country of my birth than I do.

Oh, and menudo is awesome (if you grew up with it, otherwise it's probably inedbible)

We have a restaurant here in Pflugerville called El Rincon and they have menudo as good as any I've had in Mexico. Come on up for a bowl sometime.

Weazy,

You eat menudo on New year's day. That way nothing worse can happen to you all year.

Re: TVIPs, They are co-terminus with the visa. If you get a 7 day visa, you can only get a 7 permisso.

El Rincon has been entered into the travel computer but it's still calculating an appropriate date.

I 'gotta agree with you SR, the smell is awful while it's cooking but the result is fantastic.

Hey, TurkeyCreek, if you don't like menudo you will surely like Pozole. mmmm... all the goodness of menudo without the squishy stomach meat.

Thanks for the effort, but I knew the rest of that. What I am questioning is the acuracy of the sentence above.

..
As far as I'm concerned this subject is finished here. Thanks again.

And it used to be that a 7 day TVIP was cheaper than a 180 day one, but now that is not the case. Again, what I was told by a Mexican border dude, is that now there is one price for TVIP's, I got a cheaper 7 day one myself a few years ago.

I tell you, it's awful living a stone's throw form Mexico knowing that I can't just come and go as I please, if I could I'd be doing day trips all the time. This longer tourist permit thing sounds promising. Although I've got dual citizenship I've always been required to do tourist paperwork since I do not live in Mexico.

Weazy,

I loves me some of that Pozole. It is the tripe. If it is not washed at least 50 times in Clorox, it doesn't work for me. My neighbor would bring me menudo every once and a while and I would accept it to be friendly and not eat it , I would send it home with the house keeper. She finally ratted me out and we had a good laugh.

Welcome all to the first day of the new Mayan calendar.

I wanted to be in Mexico when the world ended so went down on Thrusday, overate at several restaurantes, and the world didn't end on Friday. So overate some more. OK, so now back in AZ, on my way to TX and nothing unsafe has happened. I even brushed my teeth with tap water, and nothing happened. Kinda cold tho. Army checkpoints got a kick out of my end of the world reasoning.

BTW Tricepilot, where do I find "your girl" in Palenque?
I liked the Hotel Jovel. It had decent parking and was easy to get in and out of with the bike. Only 250 pesos for a private room if you did not need cable.

It's nice but kind of expensive. The Rincon Del Bife resturant is also on Independencia, a few blocks east. Although, if you want a good steak you can get one in Texas.
Thanks for the suggestion for hotel and restaurant. It will have to be Torreon. Parras is on my list, but the unrefined crew I run with will be looking for more trouble than is allowed there. More of a tequila crowd than vino. I'm about to form the same opinion in regards to Torreon's merits to the Nortean Traveler. This will be my 4 overnight in Torreon. Each year I ask the same question on ADV and yet not one inmate has answered more then you today. The Torreon Marriott has been suggested by a few, so I guess we will loosen up the wallets and pay. I think a doble runs about $100 US after taxes. We will be at the Roma in DRG on 1/5/13 and having delishous hotdogs across from the cathedral that eve. Not hard to find 6 dirty Okies in the plaza.

Trouble? Easily arranged for, but don't be surprised if a few of your crew wind up with their cabezas in a 55 gallon drum. I'm just saying...
