Now that I think of it, I guess technically this isn't on the BRP. It's on Skyline drive and I'm certain it's the James River.

Those pics of Rob Roy Reservoir hit close to home for me - my daughter lives in Laramie and my folks live in Cheyenne. I went to University of Wyoming in Laramie (I was on the decade plan , havin' lots of fun) and rode that country every chance I got. The Medicine Bow NF has a million miles of two-track roads and endless camp sites, glorious fishing, wonderful scenery. One of my most vivid memories of that area was following my buddy down the road along French Creek toward the North Platte, he was doing these beautiful powerslides around the curves on his Husky WR250, I was hanging back a ways to let the dust settle, then suddenly there were no more powerslides. Hmmmm, where's Jon?!? Turn around, hear a feeble voice from down off the road in the creek, he's shot off the turn and launched about 50 feet into a big clump of willows! I had to ride back to the truck, load my bike, and come back in the truck with a tow rope to get him out of there. He landed in the only safe spot for miles; everywhere else it was just boulders.

From the Wind Rivers above my home in Lander, WY:

You should recognize this place:

I had the place all to myself until about 100 boy scouts moved in and set up camp right across the road from mine. They were cool, reminded me of when I was a Scout about 1000 years ago:

The OP is right - water does enhance the experience!

The Snowy's are a jewel for sure. Great fishing, hunting, and riding. I don't own a sled, but it's also great for snowmobiles as well. Heading over past Encampment to Battle pass is also reallynice. Some good places to explore over there.
Some pix of Battle Pass.

Tha James River passes under the Blue Ridge Parkway at about mile marker 70, not Skyline Drive. That's my new back yard!

Yup, glorious country with HUGE aspen groves, unusual in those mountains and just beautiful. Battle Lake is famous because that's where Thomas edison was fishing with a bamboo pole one day, broke it, and came up with the idea of a glowing filament for the incandescent light bulb. Seriously.

Skyline Drive doesn't cross any rivers that large.

If it's the James, you were on the BRP.

The James is south of US-250.

on edit: stix beat me to it.
