I think in the old days some of the 3rd party data software (OziExplorer, GPSUtillity, WP+) may have divided up the data into separate files, waypoint (.wpt), track and routes. If I'm correct I think a .wpt file will be a text file of waypoints. Fairly sure GPSBabel would do the conversion if you had a better idea what software was used originally.
Also if you can open the file in a text editor you may be able to copy the data without the header and paste into a text file created by other software. I believe that most GPS data files are just text files with unique headers and formatting depending on the software used to create them. Bruce mcnut screwed with this post 12-21-2012 at 04:59 PM |

The F3WPT is probably the key to understanding..... F3WPT--.-- . # 01 Where the route starts, on a bogan on McKay Brook. Your WPT file could also be DeLorme file. But GPSBabel can handle them all.

It's not a Garmin file. It's only referencing a Garmin Symbol bitmap image.

that might be good to know..in searching for info on the sequence "F3WPT" it might be garmin PCX5 file from the mid 90s...which used a .wpt file for waypoints, rte file for routes etc...

Good luck. Maybe the poster of the file knows otherwise I would just start working through the more popular formats in GPSBabel.
In the early days every new program seemed to have it's own unique format which is why the standardized .gpx was needed and thus adopted. Bruce |

problem solved....
![]() ![]() ![]() I was able to open the file with a demo version of Fugawi Global Navigator 4.5......I got the hint from the website of file extensions where Fugawi was mentioned. looks like in interesting program which might be more capable than mapsource, maybe of more use in marine or aviation applications turns out the file was a series of waypoints to portage between 2 brooks deep in the woods of New Brunswick...
