That cover comes off real easy. I took mine off when my site glass was pushed in. Heres what it looks like with the cover off. I reused the gasket and havent had any oil leaks. I wounder if somthing came loose inside the motor and got wedge between the gear and the case?

I wonder if the noise is comming from an issue with the counter balence weight on the gear.

Does the side case from a WR250F work?

jrou111,
You might want to replace that gasket anyway If that was caused by some type of impact. The gasket could have a crush zone @ that location and may leak i
f reused. IMHO

Hey alansz400 do you remember what diameter the site glass or the plug you used for that incident? I wanted to get a rubber plug from the hardware store to keep in my emergency kit if that happens when I'm out traveling.

Not sure what size the glass is.
If I had to do it again I would have called for a truck to come pick me up. If that sight glass would have pluged off the oil passage or got stuck in a gear it would have been real bad. The other problem was I didnt know how much oil was in the motor.

Urgent help needed!

Hi there,
I've a big trip coming up in 2 weeks and being as organised as ever I've realised that I need two new seal guards to protect the front of my swing arms! Tricky in the festive season to find anyone open and then to get the parts out here to darkest Kenya. It might have to be DHL.
So does anyone have a couple of these lying around? Unlikely I know. Alternatively anyone a bright idea how I might fabricate something locally to protect the swing arm? Perhaps securing a strip of steel plate?
Any advice or ideas welcomed!
In the meantime Christmas greetings from Kenya.
All the best
John

I use a wine cork in my parts bag, it is a tad oversize but can be whittled down as needed if the sight glass goes. I started doing that after Alan's incident.

Just wondered if you had a estimate diameter so I could get the right size stopper. I only would be using it for extreme emergency, like up in the hinterlands of Canada or Alaska when getting out is your only choice as no tow truck would be affordable even if it could respond. In which case I would plug the hole dump the rest of the oil in a container to see how much was lost then replenish the difference. I do carry a little extra oil for emergencies.(Needed it the last trip north as my engine oil plug came loose).

Or lay the bike over on its left side pull the cover, grab the site glass and epoxy it back in.

ps. Do you remember the original post date or post # of the site glass problem or have a copy of the other picture of the cover with the site glass missing. If yes can you pm me?TNX

TNX for the suggestion I'll probably carry a cork if the rubber stopper idea doesn't work out. I'll get approximate size from measuring the exterior site glass window and alansz400's picture above.

Not so Merry Christmas....(bikewise)

WR is toast AGAIN ~1500 miles after 290 kit install .......so much for the new firmware from FMF bringing their programmer up to par for the 290 kit?? ......MtnTrails warned me to go with the PCIII but FMF assured me that their new firmware could service the 290 jug/piston......the shop is tearing it down now.......we'll see what they find......

I'm thinking it may be time to leave this WR250R experiment behind and return to my Orange roots with a fuel injected 350 EXC....I've really enjoyed the WR, but blowing up two engines has soured my taste buds.....

Looks like I'll be on The Smoker (300 XCW) the next couple of months.....which isn't so bad
