I've also carried my small bass rig on the bike, but without any other luggage. 210 cabinet lashed to the carrier-deck-ish thing on the back and a small 500-watt head just fits in a Happy Trails pannier. I do believe if I can find a satisfactory way to strap the bass to the other pannier I'll just ride to gigs..

"Depends on your priorities."
That's what the fellow said when I asked about the guitar he was carrying. He was through-hiking the Appalachian Trail (i.e. end-to-end) in 1970. I was just backpacking a short section (canvas pack and cotton/poly sleeping bag and all). Please excuse the non-motorcycle content, but his reply still applies.

Folding Guitar
I have no particular musical tendencies, but met a British guy in Mauritania who's a few months into his 2-year RTW trip and he's carrying an acoustic guitar which folds in half where the body meets the neck.
Looked pretty sweet, no idea of the brand or cost. His blog's at http://intotheride.wordpress.com/ |

Not enough room to carry a guitar.

Next month I'm renting a motorcycle while I'm in Tenerife. I'm planning to take my Yamaha Silent Guitar. It folds up quite small:

A full sized guitar would not be ideal to bring on any kind of trip much less a motorcycle trip but a small foldable one would be awesome. Where do you find those anyway?

+1 Nadgett's silent guitar. they sound pretty sweet and the "body" comes apart to pack fairly small

Other than a fun, "Let's see your guitar on a bike" thread I don't see the point.
Don't bring your Les Paul, but you can buy a decent dreadnought for less than $100. That's plenty to get you through a camp fire night, and with some pickups you can even survive a gig. All for less money than one would worry about (too greatly) getting trashed in a crash. Although bulky, guitars weigh virtually nothing, so on a motorcycle that is not an issue. That being said...let the "Show your guitar on a bike" thread continue. |

Ukelele
I used to play the guitar but converted to the ukelele because of travelling - small and compact and with a bit of bubble wrap then put in the soft case it worked well on the motorcycle.

I took a Traveler Guitar on an 8100 mile trip to Alaska and played it every night in my tent. It's the only way to go. (I happen to own a music store, so it was a no brainier).

I ran into this guy last summer in the UP. Didn't get to talk to him though. I assumed that was a guitar.
