Hi
Leigh and I will be riding through Guatemala on our Yamaha very soon on the central American leg of our round the world trip. Any tips of roads that should or should not be ridden and sights that should be seen would be of great help. Also If any ADV riders would like to meet up for a beer that would also be ![]() Dazzer and Leigh Ride write up so far http://www.bmwgs.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=10

Antigua is an awesome town and is worth visiting. If you have time go up north to Semuc, but if that's not on the schedule just head down to Johnny's Place in Monterrico before crossing into El Salvador. It would be wise to go clockwise around the lake and skip the roads between San Pedro and Santiago - lots of crooks out there that sometimes attack motorcyclists.

If you get there early, there is a small hill just outside of Chichicastenango where you can witness Mayan rites with chicken sacrifices etc. Just ask around for Pasqual Abaj Don't miss Antigua on your way south. Quote:
I would love to buy you guys a beer if you come through Antigua or even take you for a ride on some of our not so well known but amazing backroads . I'm located in Antigua : I will be back in town from a hike up to El Mirador around January 6. Quote:
Just stop at the police station on your way out of San Pedro and tell the cops that you ar going to Santiago ; they will have a patrol car waiting for you at the "dangerous" part .

Mexico to Guatemala crossing.........
Hi GuateRider,
Yes, for sure we need to hook up....perhaps at the Moto Cafe in Antigua. I'll give you a heads up a few days before. When my wife and I crossed into Guatemala a few years ago we crossed at La Mesilla with no problems. This time we're further south and see we can cross between Cacachoatan (Mexico) and El Carmen (Guatemala) then on to San Marcos, Quezaltenango and on to Lago de Atitlan (Panajachel). Do you recommend this crossing? It would save us almost a day rather then riding further north and then down through Huehuetenango. Your input (and any other inmates) is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Casey |

Raises hand! Here! Here!
I had surgery on my left arm on Dec 26 so I've been trying not to think about motorcycles (key word is "trying"). Difficult but still trying. But in 4 more weeks I'LL BE BACK! Riding that is, hard as I try I cant avoid reading the forums here. But count me in for a meet, or two. As a matter of fact as soon as I can ride again just send me a PM and I'll meet with anyone that needs a ridding buddy, available pretty much any day as long as I get 24 hours to organize things at work. Saturdays and Sundays I only need 15 minutes to get ready. Better yet, here is my email: hector marroquin @ gmail.com , just remove spaces, hate to post my email like that but I get enough spam mail now, don't care for more. Also, anyone riding through Guatemala please get in touch with me, will be more than happy to provide any assistance required, hell... I'll buy you a meal and a couple of beers in exchange for road stories.

Looking forward to meeting the Guate ADVers
Hello Everyone,
I'm relatively new to ADV and have been reading the threads the lat few months. Have a trip to SA planned for the spring and here is my schooling on ADV - the best university yet! I met with JDowns a few weeks ago and he put me in contact with richsuz online. Would be great to meet some in the GT community - though right now I'm still waiting for my bike to arrive ... Hopefully it will arrive towards the end of the month.I'll be following the posts to see when and where it will take place. David Cousteau@ADV |
