Today I realized my dream of breaking the six minute barrier by turning in a fast lap of 5:59 at my favorite local mountain bike trail. Only five months ago, I would have considered it impossible. Now my name occupies a place on the leader board inhabited only by the Strava gods.

I just test rode a Pugsley Neck Romancer. I have never thrown a leg over anything like that. The studs on the tires combined with the ponderous, inevitable track it carves combine to make it feel like you're pedaling a tank. I have never met a bicycle before, however, that would eat a Baltimore curb without blinking like the Neck Romancer. Grins per minute factor was high.

Did it have studded fatties???
I bought an original Pugs.
Bought a Necro and sold the Pugs to my brother.
Bought a Moonlander with 100mm rims and 4.7" tires and sold the Necro.
Fatties are like pedaling around with two flats while dragging a cinder block behind you.
It's one hell of a workout.
I can't wait for some snow.

I believe it did, in fact, have studded fatties. I didn't think it was like pedaling two flats & a cinder block. I thought the ride was pretty comfy - I didn't spend nearly the time choosing a line and going around anything as I would on any other bike.

I just rode right over anything & everything. I'd say the workout was different. I liked it. Not '$2k new' liked it, but maybe 'a few hunnert $' used liked it.

I'm into my Moonlander for $2,000.
I sold the other 2 for for exactly what I paid for them so I sorta worked my way up to that $2,000.
Cheapest was my used Pugs for $1,250 so I think you'll be somewhere between $2,000 and a few hundo.

Did you try any single track on it?
That's what I was referring to with the workout comment.
It's WAY more work in the woods compared to my Giant Anthem X 29er (or any of my other bikes).
