Mmmh ... that is new to me, the company where I have sended my bend and corroded stanchions where able to do both, alingning the tubes, (up to 1/500 in length), and rechroming them.

They can even coat extra hard chrome layers if the scratches are really deep and have harmed the steelbody.

Adress: http://www.wissinghartchrom.de/

But certainly not a very cheap service arounf two third of the cost of a new pair of stanchions if they are still available.

You're right.I'm thinking of solid rods, not thin wall tubes. They can be repaired. Thanks for correcting me.

I was not talking size that`s the easy part. I was talking appearance. The originals are not chrome colored, so would have to do both to match. So with shipping included, it might be cheaper to bite the bullet on new or try to patch and fill temp fix.

But it looks like a 99 or older oldstyle TXT, you would NOT sink money you never get back, would you?

Patch it best you can, ride it... SOMEDAY, sell it to the next guy (who should be a buddy of yours you convince to start riding with you) sell it cheap, so you can get the next step up in used bike... Hell give it to him, cause you can have him chip in on gas to get to meets and practice, at rates gas prices are, you will make it back, then some!! Hehehheee

Hard chrome for a hydraulic rod like a fork doesn't have a polished shine to it.But it might be a bit different.

Your not paying attention to the bike. Those forks are almost black. One black, one chromed might look odd!
So do you work in the field or a shop?

If you need the chrome colored this is an after treatment, the problem is to find a shop that do this here in Germany it is: http://www.inox-color.com/

They color mainly stainless steel but do also color chrome, costs are about 5.00 €/kg net.

You can also use nail polish or JB Weld to fill any divots after you file down the high spots.

I'll try the Jb weld when I get home. I just ordered up brake pads for it today. Gotta love amazon. I'll be snagging up some new tires for it soon, though that is lower priority as the weather will suck for a little while.

. Have fun.....I guess.

We are going to give it a go today. "Supposed" to be mid 40s and dry. If I only wasn't still feeling the lingering effects of the flu that dropped me this week.

Spent several hours fixing the flat in the front tire of my Sherco. I'd only been shown how to do it twice before but was able to do it all by myself today. New tube and everything! I did have to ask a couple times to make sure I was doing it right but I eventually got it done and it held air the first time! (at least so far) Even found some time afterwards for wheelie practice in the snow.
