The best option are the New Ohlins TTX shocks, the BM676 and BM677.

These are very good for ride quality, very good for both on road and off road, and do have a Hydraulic spring preload adjuster for adding luiggage or a passenger.

The Next best are the Ohlins BM543 and BM437. The BM543 can be used both on and off road, it Uses a progressive damping system with twin pistons like the BM542 listed in post 35.

The next pair are the BM436 and BM437, these are meant for road use only

All the shocks above are the same length as the stock shocks, and are not going to be any lower than the stock shocks. And on the BM543 rear and BM437, a little higher.

Ohlins does make a shorter set of shocks for the R1200GS, they are the BM508 and BM509, these are the same as the BM436 and BM437 with a reduced stroke, less rear wheel travel, these are abouut the same ride height as the stock shocks.

Hi Dan

I am 5'6", 155lbs and my riding is 80/20 street/dirt. Couple questions for you regarding my 2013 F800GS (factory lowered):

1. Is the Ohlins USA/Sweden fork cartridge compatible with the lowered F800GS? I am not sure whether the fork tubes on the lowered GS are the same as standard GS. The BMW parts fische doesn't list the fork tube part numbers, so I cannot confirm.

2. In combination with the S46DR1B shock, will there be any height increase? I am not looking to increase the height as the current seat height of 32.3" is more than what I can handle. In fact, lowering it further by an inch or less would be better.

I do not know either.

If they are shorter we should be able to shorten the Ohlins USA cart kit.

The Ohlins shock is the same eye to eye measurement as the Stock shock on the Standard height bike, so yes it will be much taller.

Plus These bikes stock have a huge amount of both static and rider sag making the bike even lower. This also uses up a lot of the rear wheel travel.

The Ohlins shock will not have as much sag also raising the ride height of the bike.

Went through the whole thread looking for F650GS possibilities. The SO has both a twin, new, and single,old. The single is really ready for a new shock, and seems to sit a bit to low on the rear. Could also use fork springs. Can the back be raised a bit and what are the possibilites? The single is much easier for her to handle on dirt, and cuses less hand wringing when dropped.

Ohlins does make a rear shock for the F650GS Dakar 2000-2007, in fact they make 2 one for the ABS version (BM750) and one for the Non ABS (BM048)

Ohlins for 1150 GS

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the group buy opportunity, looks like I missed the cutoff to avoid the price increase. Looking to replace the rear on my 2001 1150GS. I ride 50/50 road/off road and always solo. For weight, 215 lbs in gear, and another 40-50 lbs in equip off road.

It seems that the BM542 is the model to use for my purposes from what I've seen on this thread. Do you know how much this raises the height of the bike or additional ground clearance? At 6'5" this isn't a worry and there will be a benefit as it could provide some additional ground clearance.

Can you pm a price please.
