Do they have good coffee in Veracruz?
Yes, it comes from La Esperanza and it tastes better when you are enjoying it with Andres, Arte, Craneguy, the Mystery Rider, and those gueros from Texas and Missouri. How about the 9th, Bato? I cant do the 8th. |

Interesting ride today from Chiapa de Corzo to Pichucalca. Nice twisty road with plenty of elevation then down to follow a big wild river for a while. I was riding in thick fog for a time, and this is when I came upon a body laying face up and legs akimbo (points for that Tom?) on the side of the road. Actually partly on the road. I thought maybe he'd been hit by a car in the fog, and the car driver had done a runner... He really looked dead - I thought I'd better stop to check, but wasn't sure what I'd do if he actually was dead. I figured I'd wave down a local and let them figure it out.
For a few seconds when I got to him, I could see no signs of life and was thinking oh shit... then his throat moved a little and I started slapping him around... there was vomit on his shirt, so I came to the conclusion that he was dead drunk. Meanwhile I tried to wave down some cars, 3 passed but nobody stopped. I got him sitting up and he was talking, so figured he would be ok so said adios. It wasn't till a bit later that I thought maybe playing dead was a tactic used by the bad guys to get people to stop? And maybe that's why the locals didn't stop when I tried to wave them down? Here's the bookends to my day In the morning, leaving the hotel where I'd been for three days, this little sweetheart (whose mum runs the place) was sad to see me go... ![]() I was stopped at this checkpoint just before Pichucalca. Most of the time I don't get stopped, and I think the times I do it's just because the guys are bored and want to check out the bike. That was the case this time, we ended up joking around and the commander at the post suggested I have a photo with one of the soldiers. This guy was a bit of a comedian. Mexico is safe in his hands!

Sounds like a perfect day Trevor. Of course you get points. Most of the people I know think Legs Akimbo is an exotic dancer. Feliz Año.

I am ready for some warmth!
It was a long time before the temp got to 32 F. Heck, the old R1100GS would only register two bars on the oil temp at an indicated 85MPH!

I will be leaving for Central America from Dallas Wednesday morning. I plan to make it all the way to Panama this time! ha ha I have stopped by to visit with Tracy on the way down and will again when I come back home. I should arrive back home between mid March and the first of April. I don't plan on doing a Ride Report for this trip, but I will have my SPOT turned on. Attaboy!
![]() ![]() Hey Bato! Are you guys going to be on the coast or in Xalapa. If you are on the coast, we can do Arte and Andres "Greenland" area and either the Misantla highway to Naolinco (Schizz and Donnie know that one, nice curves and nice climb) or we can do La Esperanza and then double back towards Plan de las Hayas and head to Alto Lucero and ride the brand new blacktop (very nice) curves down towards the Actopan junction. Food is good in Naolinco. What are you riding these days???? |

I'd love to be at Mexican customs if you tried to cross with that.

Well, that will do fine!
The Tornado of the Sierra Negra! Looks like all it needs is an Airhawk. Huatusco is excellent, I can be there in about an hour or so coming in via the excellent road of Manuel Gonzalez. Then we flip a peso coin whether to go north or south...or west...if you dare...more "a la madres y chingaos" por kilometro con la ruta oeste! |

Last ride of the year!
![]() Can't really tell where the picture was taken, as we were freaking lost in the mountains, it was somewhere in Hidalgo. What you see there is not even a real state road, but more of a road built by mining companies, lots of dirt on the road, lots of stones and a few landslides. Fog was so thigh you could barely see 6 feet in front of you... At some point we got to the end of the paved road... That's when we figured out we had taken a wrong turn somewhere. |
