I guess more will be known after tonight's briefing (anyone know when this is?). Until then, we can start the F5 ludicrous rumor mill.
The ASO obviously wants to destroy some people's prepared strategies on short notice. Whose and why? |

Suppose if everyone has their times factored by the same x then it wouldnt make a difference....well will widen the gap a bit if they round off the times...but if they have some crazy..how do you say...factor du francais...then this could be just plan wierd...
![]() Edit: Ya that would be messed up...stage one would become much more important if they times it by 5... rider x has a time of 5:06 rider y has a time of 6:01 x5 rider x now has a time of 25.3 rider y now has a time of 30.5 That one minute difference just became a 5-+ minute difference... Stage 1 may have just become much, much more important than a short prologue

Word is they don't want the pros to go extra slow on the prologue so they don't have to open SS2. But isn't the result sending rallyraiders into full SX mode?
Maybe we see Caselli winning SS1 and lots and lots of overturned buggies, capsized trucks and amateur riders with broken ankles. Not sure I like that. |

So, on stage 1, F5 becomes F15?
If they didn't do that, then a guy could take it a bit easy on stage 1, and drop 1 minute or so of overall time to his competition. Then on stage 2 he starts maybe 5 or 10 minutes later, forcing the front runners to have the navigation challenge, and allowing himself to just follow their tracks and make up 5 or 10 minutes on stage 2. That puts him 4 to 9 minutes ahead on overall time. A super fast guy with minimal navigation experience, like Kurt Caselli, could be leading Dakar by 9 minutes after stage 2! |
