Need any infos?

Touareg begins to same tame compared to seeing this! Mauritania is no joke!

Schlesser wins in the cars.

SONANGOL AFRICA RACE 2013 Press Release N°10
The SONANGOL-SCHLESSER buggy wins it's fifth victory on the Sonangol Africa Eco Race.

This is the fifth victory for the blue buggy! Jean Louis Schlesser, with his talented navigator Cyril Esquirol, will bring his buggy to the top spot of one of the most mythical podiums in rally raid. Having crossed the N’Gor beach for the last time, the competitors will arrive at the Lac Rose in Dakar.

Jean Louis Schlesser even had the luxury of being able to waste some time during the last 196 km of Special disputed in Mauritania, but it was for a good cause...

"We stopped to help a Porsche in the Classic class who'd got stuck. The Special wasn't easy; there were loads of traps and you couldn't makes any stops for fear of sinking in the sand. It was also easy to get lost. We made no mistakes, I wanted to finish without any problems and we managed it. If Van Cauwenbergue wins the Special, I'm very happy for him, he's a cool guy who doesn't have a big head and he deserves it."

There's a "Classic" category in the Sonangol Africa Eco Race, in which the UMM of the old days took part; a Honda 600 XLM bike and two Porsche 911s, one of which won the rally in the eighties with René Metge at the wheel!
Furthermore, Jean Louis was happy that one of his friends won the final stage in the dunes of Mauritania.

Jean Louis Schlesser is a remarkable driver. 'The 'The boss' is again the winner of the most difficult Rally Raid in the World. He helps us to remember the memory of Thierry Sabine by following in his legendary tracks...
The Paris-Dakar rally isn't dead because Jean Louis Schlesser continues it's tradition, having also won the Paris-Dakar twice. The mythical rally of which the former race director and past winner, René Metge is now behind the Africa Eco Race. Hubert Auriol, multiple winner and former race director of the Paris-Dakar took part in the Africa Eco Race this year...

A historic and magnificent test that is today reborn with it's heroes and it's race director... The impressive history of the Rally Raid continues!

Well, yet another edition complete. I'll be picking up #2 today from the airport. My dad is staying in Dakar an extra 2 days, visiting a friend he met during the first edition

That looks like an amazing rally!

Brodo - thanks for the pics. Brings back fond memories seeing the photos of them on the beach at Dakar from when we finished Heroes Legend 2012, I got a pile of fishing wire wrapped round my 690's rear axle after the beach run I did!

Did you race with Ben Norman and the Desert Rose crew? Amazing rally as well, although I did hear some nagging about the '12 edition... Waiting to speak to either Guillame or Martin R before committing to this one, but yeah I am a bit jealous of all the riders making their way through all that gorgeous scenery. There's just something about west Africa...

Three amigos at Lac Rose

Unknown, Martin Rabenlehner, Christian Horwath. To say I am a little jealous would be a massive understatement
