Mexico has different rules for Non USA citizens
Hi Andi
I noticed to post suggesting you can get paperwork done in La Paz. USA citizens might be able to - kiwis can't. Waiting to get paperwork sorted in La Paz is far too late for kiwis. And very time consuming and problematic in our recent experience. Kiwis- and other non US citizens- have to get the paperwork done within 60km of the border crossing i.e. the bike paper work, and especially the 180 day tourist visa. You wont be allowed to buy a ticket for the Pichilingue ferry to Mazatlan without complete paperwork. We were threatened with having to fly back to Tijuana to get sorted. There was a phone number on a poster on the window at the Ferry ticket office that lead us to a solution but It was a hassle and it cost. |

We just did this a couple of weeks ago. We obtained our TVIP in Pichilingue after getting the tourist visa in Tijuana. Only then were we able to purchase a ticket to the mainland. Things you will need: - driver's license - passport - registration for bike - tourist visa Plus we're Canadian, not American. I believe the same rules apply for Kiwis as well. The most important part is getting that tourist card at the border. A&E, keeping your cervezas cool for when you get down here!

The reason I was getting the TVIP in La Paz was because I missed the immigration office in Tecate - it's very small without obvious signage, and if there was a truck or an RV parked in front of it, you wouldn't see it. I was able to get my tourist visa no problem in Ensenada, but not the TVIP - hence the plan to do it in La Paz. Guys I'm assuming you are going back to Mexico on the same 180-day visa you had before - not sure how long would be left on it now, 3 months maybe? So you just have to take care of the TVIP on the new bike... Trevor |

Belated Seasons greetings
It's been a while since I last posted so I apologize for not keeping in better contact. I have been following the blogs though and I'll start with saying it's great to see Ellen back on her feet again. Your a tough nut Ellen a true adventure traveler. As they say you have to get make on the horse and you have done just that. Love your spirit.
I won't even comment on the mountains of s*^t you two have had to deal with accept to say you are truely a more tolerant person than I. By now I would have hired a bounty hunter to sort out the dick head that sold you that KTM. It looks like your getting things sorted though and hopefully back in the saddle again soon. Here to a much better 2013 for the both of you. Who knows, this time next year I will be chasing the Dakar Rally and you might too. All good, Dave |

Sorry to read of your KTM woes,i'll not go into how much i loath them, but, yes, lesson for everyone
go visit the bike before purchase......similar thing happened with my ATK605(he was English living in the States,so there are bad eggs from all over!). Think a wee visit to a lawyer is in order before you leave the US,though if it was out of State, you might have a problem,as i found out! Good luck, hope part 2 kicks off soon, good reading! |

Heya Jim and All
Test ride went ok, Maya seems to be going ok, I have an imaginary nunga sounding like piston slap but it might be from distrust and not knowing the new sounds. Today 9th Jan we are on the road again finally, can't thank the Phoenix ADVers enough and certainly the people who we stayed with getting us back on our feet and sorted. The next few days I will condense Phoenix and the post Maya disaster start into a ride report, sorry we have been slow on the airwaves .... been reorganizing our life onto one bike. Here is a quick taste of where we are at.... Jesses on a SE!! ![]() ![]()
