The tank holts about 15.5L so the total is around the 41L mark. I T into the main fuel line beteen the tap and pump so you can run on the just the front or rear. I mormaly run on the rear and when its just about run out turn the front tank on and it feeds in the rear but dosent over flow it. This can be done on the fly so you dont even have to stop so you can keep riding for 700 + km with out a brake if your keen.
The loops are for my soft panier bags and they strap on and I run a frame on the LHS. I havent made on the the LHS yet but plan on doing it as soon as I get a chance. Its a bit more work on the LHS as I have to build it around the pipe and it will hold less as well but hopfuly it will hold around 9-10 L . The last trip I did I got 17.3km/L loaded up with a spare tyre straped on the back so I should get about 710km on a tank load and that was with 530km beteen fuel stops. Cheers Matt |

I finally got my skid plate installed on the 640.
To make the plate easier to mount, I installed a stud for the front mount. Now I just slip the plate over the stud and install the bottom bolts. This way you are not juggling that 11 pound chunk of aluminum and trying to find a 6mm hole. Much easier my way! ![]() I also drilled the 4 bottom bolts to safety wire them. Better not to lose this big chunk like one of the other inmates did!! The stud at the front now accepts a nylock nut. ![]() For the tool box lids, I installed 3 bolts from the bottom up. The fourth one, front/right, is a little more difficult due to the taper of the skid plate. You can not install a bolt from the bottom up. For this one I ran a bolt through the threads on the plate from the outside, installed a nylock on the inside, then cut the bolt head off. Now I can use wing nuts or nylocks depending on how easy access I want to the tool boxes. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm still figuring out what to put in the tool boxes. I think I will try and get my tire change gear into them. I can get a compressor and one tube into the left side and my tools into the right side. I had originally put my CO2 cartridges into the right side, but don't know if that is such a good idea being so close to the exhaust??? ![]() I'm also not too sure I will want the compressor in the tool box as I might be in a wet environment??? How well sealed are the tool compartments?? The plate looks good so far............... ![]() ![]() Cheers

Nice work Droptarotter.
Any further details on the front stud? (i.e. How do you get the stud in? What's to stop is vibrating out?) I was thinking the same for the other stuff, but maybe using a tiny padlock on each side and wingnuts as well. Not sure if you can get padlocks that small though (of good quality).

I installed a about a 30mm X 6mm bolt with blue Locktite into the front skid plate bolt mounting hole on the frame.
I used the blue locktite as I wanted to be able to get the stud out easy if it broke. Cut the head off the bolt and install the skid plate. Put a 6mm flat washer and a nylock on the remainder of the bolt, then trim any excess bolt off. File smooth. If the stud is tightened enough, it should stay on the frame and the nylock will remove easily but still give a secure mount. If I have a problem with the stud coming loose in the future, I will use Stud and Bearing mount to secure it next time. The reason I did not use it now is because if I break the stud off, it will be tough to get the remainder of the stud out. I never considered a padlock. To get one that small would make it very insecure. I will probably just carry a 10mm wrench with me and install the skid plate caps with nylocks. The only other thing I considered was a piece of safety wire between the "wings" of the wing nuts. Drill a small hole in each wing and then run safety wire between them so they will not vibrate loose. What are you putting in your tool boxes?? Cheers

Are the 640 aux tanks still available?
Is here a left & right version or just right? The right tank holds 15.5 liters correct. |

A bit of custom work
A little bit of custom tank and bash plate work of the mighty TransAlp.
![]() ![]() ![]() The Bash plate is made out of 5mm 5083 and the tanks 3mm 5005 Alloy with as many bends as possible to eliminate as much welding as possible. I think the RHS ended up with 11L and the RHS about 10L. The tanks where made to fit in with the new custom twin pipes and the bash plate protects the pipe that crosses over under the bike.
