Jumping a DR650

My attempts at this have resulted in ME getting air but unfortunately not the bike. Luckily I have landed both feet back on the pegs rather than my nads on the tank.

Jumping a 365lb bike with the softest stock suspension out there?

It doesn't have to have the softest suspension out there though. Why not try it, especially if you've upgraded the suspension?

Jumping either a DR or KLR is asking for a broken frame or body. They make literally thousands of bikes that are fun and easy to jump long distances.
I think from the safety of a chair in front of a computer many people can get big air on their econobox 400 lb dualsports,Ive found if you actually go riding with these big air guys,often times their wives wont let them ride the bike off road that day.

There used to be a "got air" picture-thread for dualsports in the picture-forums, but cant find it right now. All sorts of bikes can get some air, stock or modified.

Maybe you're right. I've seen a few clips of DRs and XRLs on the (MX) track and the guys look like they're having a blast. Set up right I bet you could jump a 14 buses with a 1960 Harley.

I will admit his bike is not exactly stock, its bored and sprung quite well...It is quite a sight to see a klr on a mx trackhauling ass though

My drz will get some air, although admitedlly, im too much of a chicken to try for the doubles, but it does mx well enough. Maybe ill got for the doubles when its rebuilt...then again maybe not.

This is a buddy of mine jumping his DR about as far as I've ever seen... A short time later, he put his bike into the ground in this very area, full Atgatt, resulting in a medflight, prolonged coma, broken bones, lacerated lung and minus a kidney. His wife sold the bike while he was still in the hospital; I love to ride fast, but this kind of removed my desire to jump the DR...

300/400+lb bikes may be fun for some to play racer on. I value my skin and bones too much to do so.

Recovered, but quit riding due to the kidney loss and the fact he has two small kids... This pic was taken by me on a previous ride to this area, when he had the big wreck, he hasn't even left the parking area; it is surrounded be berms and jumps, not sure exactly what happened, but his friend had to leave him on the ground while he hightailed it for area where he could get cell coverage to call in medflight. He was a very experienced rider, fully geared as far as I know, but still got very jacked up. The bike was barely scratched...

It must have landed on him. I nearly endoed my DR on a downhill riding in dust and tagged a boulder,Ive never felt such a sense of imminent total disaster rolling along on the front wheel headed for a small bunch of trees.............Life Flight came to mind in a split second.

Crashing a 400 lb bike isnt like crashing a 230 lb bike,sharp pieces of metal being pushed by 400 lbs can take you out plain and simple.
Yes an expert can jump and do tricks on any bike and make it look easy.
Most of us on here arent experts.
