-bumping this thread which has everything of a 'barnfind'

-kudo to your blog which has this remarkable ride report and the much announced part II that never got through.

-a tribute to an regular fellow that just rode his stock motorcycle with all the gusto of a true human.

-a call to something like those humongous Alaskan signposts that would direct to reports that are so out of the ordinary and peculiar as this one.

By the way, an attempt to reconstruct the route and a ride has been made sometime ago. I had the impression it turned out a bit of a disappointment.
A reenactment would likely benefit from a decent dose of dirt roads, small bikes and big balls. Remember the scene where a deer jumps in his path, he starts shooting, then realizes not having room for the venison so just swerves and rides on in a cloud of dust and gunpowder. 1916 rocks!
