I once had to take a friend to the hospital with a broken collarbone after he tried that on a bicycle....

Its probably very liberating to not have to worry about further damage to your brain.

Holed my case and slid on my back 40 feet down the road.

Eh, I rode it home and swapped bikes.

It'll be okay. I'm hoping the case is aluminum so it can be welded.

WR.

I turned off a paved road onto an abandonded road that gets no maintenance, was traveling way too fast. The intersection was like a shallow "y" so I didn't really have to slow down to make the turn, as soon as I was on the abandoned road I was all over the place due to the compressed ice on top of the dirt, couldn't scrub off any speed, and went down hard. The shifter broke off and punched through the case; no other damage.

I slid on my back, but it was essentially like a big icy slip 'n' slide due to the road being covered in ice, so I'm mostly fine. My right arm is sore but nothing that kept me from riding some more and then going in to work.

The hole in the case is not huge, and once I got home I noted that the oil level was still right at the "min" mark so I'm sure no damage was done internally. A new part is $85, so even if I can't get it welded I'm only looking at $125 for shifter, gasket, and crankcase cover. Not a huge deal.

Got a little over 200 miles in on the KLX and thankfully no troubles other than I blown fork seal. Still a lot of ice on the roads less traveled.

I give Mark a lot of credit because he sure crashed with style. It rivaled a Moto GP crash for the distance he and the bike travelled independently from each other. Thankfully you are ok!

Glad to hear you're OK. How fast we're you going? What kind of gear were you wearing? Pics of damage?
