Oh oh, time to heli coil the helix .

Went to hang a eBay helix clone exhaust on my new to me helix and then things went south.

Found only 3 bolts holding the old one on, not 4. Figure out what I need, find one and continue on. Try to get the front upper one on, the one that bolts thru the swing arm into the threaded hole in the crankcase,but the threads won't bite.

Take the exhaust side swing arm off and find an oval bolt hole.

Now my guess is it's time to pop my heli coil cherry and put a insert into the crankcase.

If ya got any tips, I'm all ears.

Does autozone or o'reilly carry helicoil inserts?

Just get a longer bolt and put a nut on it

Auto Zone usually has them.

The upper bolt hole doesn't go thru and thru, but it would probably be easier to drill all the way thru and just use a longer bolt and nut, there is enough clearance on the backside, so ur idea should work fine.

I used one to reattach the exhaust manifold to the to the engine and it worked great. The new bolt was smaller but it fit and held perfectly. I had the shop do the work as I had never installed one myself.

Don't ride with one bolt unless you want the lower case bolt hole to just snap off. Why not just run a tap through it? Tie and die set are 20 bucks . Fairly simple to due. I only warn about the bolt hole snapping because it happens all to often. twice to me. Hope it works out for you.

until its fixed, even though this discovery has been a pia, i'm glad to know now, not later.

i think i'm just gonna bore all the way thru use a longer bolt and hang a washer and nut on the backside.

I think the average tap and die set wont work on that fix since its a blind hole
there are special taps for that

from the videos ive seen helicoils look easy to install if you can get to the spot with the tools
but looks expensive to do with everything you have to buy unless you already have it
and the kits are expensive too

but its always fun to get new tools
