Well, here's what I've learned thus far:

1) Corbin: Getting mixed (if not mostly bad) reviews
2) Sargent: Doesn't offer one for an '08
3) Renazco: Can't handle the huge wait

I was inspired by someone to checkout this site:

http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/

Basically, they explain how to tinker and fine tune your own seat and they don't sell you anything... They have some links for suggested vendors (foam), but that's it. After all, we are just talking about cutting up foam, right?

So, I just ordered an electric knife (think Thanksgiving turkey) and I've got 2 old seats to practice on. I'm going to hack into those seats and see what I can do. If I try my hand at it and the results are favorable, I'll give the Speed Triple seat a go. If not, I'll chicken out and send it out or buy an aftermarket.

Wish me luck!

Great reviews from here.

Would have to send seat in though.

That's a little expensive for me. I wish somebody like Seat Concepts made a replacement cover and foam:

http://seatconcepts.com/

I put one of these on my KTM and it was a huge improvement. It really isn't rocket science to staple some foam and a cover onto your existing seat pan, but it is difficult for the average guy to come up with the properly shaped / right density piece of foam.

If you have a box seat ass then buy a box seat. If you don't or are not sure then have one made for YOUR ass and what YOU want to do.

Seat mods

I had a corbin on my 96 Tiger and while it was an improvement over stock, it was hard and still needed extra padding. Having several different bikes I hesitate to spend hundreds of custom seats that only fit the single bike, so now am using an airhawk which I can move from bike to bike with decent comfort. Still looking for the perfect solution and am also considering a gel/foam/sheepskin seat pad from these guys http://www.amspecialtiesusa.com/gelpad.htm.

Just to add, you could always try Spencer's too. He reworked my Versys seat and it turned out nicely. Yeah, his website brings back memories of 1995, but his actual work and turn around was great.

+1 I sent my 06 Speed Triple seat to Spencer and it's loads better now for under $100.

Currently Spencer is getting better reviews than Corbin!

Old post, but some good info. I was debating on buying an ebay seat and playing around on my own I'd like something more comfy that looks stock. But for the money I may just ship it off to spencer during the off season....

I sent my seat, off a 2011 S3 to Seth Laam for a custom built seat. It cost $259 including shipping back to me.

Here is a picture of it, the bumps on the rear portion are from me leaving a tail bag full of tools on the seat for a couple of week and I had just taken it off to take this picture. I had two different kinds of vinyl to give a more custom look.
