No Toil Pre-Oiled Filter - XR250

Are these filters okay? An OEM or a UNI are about 2X the price.

Do they use the OEM screen/frame?

Try a K&N filter, blow it off with an air hose to clean it

I use twin air, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't use a k&n if you plan to ride off-road. You'll get more than your share of dirt in the motor and that WILL wear the valves prematurely.

I love No-toil. Great for Euro bikes like KTMs, Husky, etc that are very finicky about getting dirt or sand in the intake.

Total overkill for an XR250.

And don't forget to blow out the downstream side of the intake where all the dust that's transited to K&N filter has accumulated... YMMV

They are cheap filters. They won't last as long as the more expensive filters, but they're ok for a while. On the late model XRs they use the stock screen. I don't know about the older models.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I will try the No Toil. It is half the price of everything else out there and the two fifty doesn't get used that much in extreme conditions.

Im confused...

how the heck is it overkill if it is half the price of a comparable UNI or OEM filter...?

and how is one bike more finicky about sand or dirt in the intake than another..or was the point that an xr valvetrain is a bit more robust or old school than a newer model valvetrain? and can thereofre take a bit more dirty air? if so I would agree on that

My xr650 has a no-toil on it, and I've always used either uni or twin air on everything else.

Except for the difference in cleaning they seem to perform the same. I bought the one for the xr as a tester, I haven't decided one way or the other which one I like better. Also I haven't had it long enough to comment about longevity.

The no toil is easier to clean. Either way its messy, but using water and a kitchen sink beats the parts washer and diesel fuel.

A key rule of Thumpers is to ignore anything Off the Grid says in regards to Japanese bikes.

No-toil filters might be cheaper, but it's a wash because you have to use their oil and cleaning solution/grease. It's usually sold as a kit.

I would venture that the tolerances in newer aluminum engines are much more precise and have less allowances for dirt and grit. Normal maintenance and proper seating of the air filter is enough to avoid this.

I just ordered a UNI from Rocky Mountain ATV for my 2001 XR. I thought it was interesting that the UNI comes with a replacement filter cage.

The UNI spin sez:
