John65 if you look at the Chattahooche NF, Conasauga Dist., Motor Vehicle Use Map you will see that FS 205 dead ends before you get to Jenkins Gap ( FS201). Those gates are frequently closed, they open them for prehunt scouting and hunting, it looks like you there in the Fall. I enjoyed the pics, all that is my "default" riding area.

I check in on the DOG thread pretty often and rode your Horsestomp weave route last year (most of it anyway, when we were not lost)

Last spring we ran the TET-S going the other direction and I used a Nuvi 550. FWIW If you run the route as an offroad route, it does not screw up the calcs like it does if you try to make it road route. In fact I found it worked really well running as an offroad route. We got to FS205 coming from the other direction, and I got concerned that it was going to be a dead end as the garmin road stops, but as you know it doesn't. Also coming from the other direction, there were private road/no trespassing signs on the road leading up to FS 205.

I had considered doing a direct route (offroad), but then I learned how to build an overlay map. That's the best thing I've learned in dealing with the cheaper garmin products, which is all I can afford. We rode the Alabama section in clockwise direction earlier in the year, but then in August when we rode the Florida section, it was easier to just ride 15 miles down to Jackson county and ride it CCW, then continued Georgia section in November. It's a good route, but I think it would be an improvement to use Treeman's Pine Mountain route instead of the SE Alabama section. BTW - did you ride Charlies Creek and Flatland road on those bikes?

Great job there and enjoyed the stew out of your report/pictures!
You old guy's are livin the dream! ![]() Melvin,Bill, and I did the TET clockwise starting above Dothan and ended up in Oxford before having to call it quits because of a malfunction in Melvins KLR650 carburetor (found out later he had a malfunction of the enrichning device). Your pictures show how much great riding we missed. Hope to see you again this year at Treemans event and thanks a bunch for taking the time to post all those pictures and comments.

It's JaVaWa software, just Google javawa and you'll find all the info you need. You can create a track in mapsource (or others) and get an image from that and then use GMTK (garmin map tool kit) to create an overlay map to download to your GPS.

(http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=854033) We couldn't have planned that ride, we just lucked into it.... I promised Treeman I'd help him prep for get-together, so I'll see you there.

Not that I have any doubts about your riding it, ,I've seen shots of you on the V-Strom but I didn't think those tires were up to the task. However, I wouldn't think those tires could handle some of the stuff you did ride through...

John65,
We had great weather in north Alabama today so I went over to La Fayette and got "lost" in the section south from Smith Gap Rd. Had an awesome day. Thanks for your RR, I had no idea those roads were there.

I never knew there was so many good roads in north Ga. We've been to TN a few times, and (in getting there) drove right past some of the best riding I've ever done.

I rode the Florida section (on the KLR) with heidenau K60's, and the back was almost worn out, so I think I know what you were going thru in the mud. They work about like street tires even when new.
