That is marketing hoping you'll infer you could still be riding this one when it's ancient and gutless.

I'm looking for a new bike to do a South American Trip in May 2014, I've never owned a BMW and after covering 80,000 touring miles on two Vstrom 650's (different continents) in the last few years (zero problems with them) I'm eager to try something different. I like the sound of the new GS but I have one problem with them and that is the odd tire sizes the new bike runs. At times on the road I had trouble finding the tire I wanted for the Vstrom and had to compromise. Considering that the Strom ran a fairly common tire size I can't imagine the difficulty one could have finding a special Metzler 120/70/19 in out back Peru. Any comments....???

Interesting comparison of current ADV bikes to the new GS by Motorrad here.
Good source of comparative data - weights, price (in EU), HP etc

sat on the bike yesterday at Jacob Javits. Really nice leg position, maybe a tad less cramped than the 1150. not that it was but the new bike felt really nice. once I told them who I was they asked me to get off.

Sat on the New water boxer at the NYC show, felt just like the old GS. still nice.
seems a much "cleaner" integrated engine design. really like the adjustable wind screen...wish the know was on the left side so one would not have to take the hand off the trottle to adjust. Asked about LED head lights....seems they will not be on the first set of bike coming in the march time frame. Not sure DOT has/will approve...people at the show just did not know. |

That bike made me a bit OCD about searching for news and releases. I'm quite surprised though that it's been 3 days now in South Africa and still there is silence. Not even a lousy youtube video.
