Old School Luggage - Page 4

There are some beautiful oldies on here and so many styles of panniers (bags). After reading an article in the RealClassic magazine (Issue 104) I just had to read up about American Enduro teardrop panniers which to my eyes look terrific.

I don't have a photo (wish I did), but when I saw the title of this thread it immediately made me think of my first motorcycle trip, on a 70's Honda 750. My "luggage" was an old army surplus duffel bag, with everything in it, strapped on the back of the seat with bungee cords.

Kinda like my mess of nylon luggage, WW2 canvas Air Corps.bag and bungee cords?:

Near "Rabbit Ears Pass" in Co......maybe 1982(?)

Samsonite Tribar luggage. I found a full set for sale here a decade ago but did not need them (had working Krausers on my bike at that time) and no place to keep them anyway.

Improvised saddle bags in '78, young & broke & travelling through Queensland doing Seismic Survey work, bags are WWII vintage back packs from memory

Make sure the exhaust has a shield over it!, left hand bag caught fire within 100kms of leaving on the trip, service station attendant wasn't amused to see a smoking bike pull into fill up with fuel!!!!!!

I had those cheapo nylon bags on a 1980(?) 850 Triple Yamaha. (We were on a 300 mile ride to go boating) One of the bags contacted the muffler, burned through and melted into a bottle of my Wifes' "baby oil" in the bag. Started smoldering big time....and what a mess.
