Landed in Emerald last week, removalists picked up our stuff on the 7th... apparently it takes 15 days to get a truck here so we're moving in tomorrow finally (after the truck broke down on friday) and the bike also arrives tomorrow (separate carrier, picked up on the 8th, for delivery on 14th then delayed to the 22nd!) Is it really that hard to get shit up here?!

Anyway, unpacking starts tomorrow (unless the truck breaks down again), then job hunting, hope I can find work, not many adverts. Then I'll be hoping to start exploring the area. Won't be hitting any hard trails, really need to ease back into riding and not damage myself. More interested in checking out the countryside.

Is there any easy trails close to town?

Thanks dazza

Hahah yep, DR650, bought for more 'gentle' exploring but I might change it in for a lighter 'dirt' bike.

A quick easy run out of Emerald Head to Anakie by Tar about 2 k's past the Anakie/ Rubyvale turnoff turn right onto Livingstone rd (after the railway bridge), follow the dirt all the way to the Willows siding (20to30k) where you will cross the railway line and come back out onto the Capricorn highway (Longreach rd) turn left go 400 meters then right head for the Willows Gem fields, then Rutland rd, then go about 4 k and either turn left onto Southerland rd and head back to Anakie or go straight ahead to Glenlee rd and onto Springsure. Before you get to Springsure turn left and take the dirt rd to the Graves and then back out to the Emerald/ Springsure rd. Turn left and head for Emerald then take the dam rd and back to Emerald that way. That will take you about 3/4 hours with a beer stop

Another longer version is to head for Bogantungan after you come out of the Willows siding, so turn right go to Bogan and turn left onto Medway creek rd keep on it to Buckland rd then Glenlee rd then Springsure etc etc.

When you have explored that section we can give plenty more to wet your whistle.

Cheers for that!

Just tried tracing it on googlemaps, few different names, and couldn't find some, but I get the general direction, and that's all you nearly need right?! I've got a GPS on the bike, I'll take my usual lonely rider kit (water, first aid, tool kit). Looking at getting a spot tracker to keep the other half happy.

Exploring time

Thanks guys!

Well our truck finally arrived at 5pm yesterday (10am-12pm window) and the motorbike arrived after doing 1500km at around 9:30pm. Worst move ever, Toll Transitions can suck a fat one!

Anyway, bike arrived in a 18 wheeler which made me laugh, the driver let me come up and check out the back, it was full of bikes, dual level bike transporter.

I've been hanging out to setup a little man shed for years, and I've finally got the space. So I'll be out riding in no time once I can give the bike a once over.

Need to work out a hard case arrangement for my camera and a few lenses so I can get out and start snapping.

Yup,looks like the same guy I knew when I was at Toll,he subbies for them and runs between Tassie and Townsville.
Often has bricks and tiles in the bottom and bikes on the top level...
If using Toll it's really better to drop off and pickup from their depots or send it in a shops bike crate as general freight.
.Emerald has a Toll/NQX/Ipec depot.

He was a top bloke JohnG. Really seemed like he knew what he was doing, went over the bike, did his own paperwork when he took possession. I was very pleased with his service.

Dazza67 - I'll pop over and check it out. I've got a case already, but it's more used for storing everything, I don't want to bastardise it into a top case with just my touring basics.
