I think you mean east.
BUT Good news (or is it?), two days ago McDonalds Russia announced obtaining permission to open 5 outlets in Novosibirsk. http://en.rian.ru/business/20130121/178917508.html I suppose it is just a matter of time before there is one at the end of the Vitim Bridge

Spoiled
It seems we have all been spoiled in a good way here!
Bear in mind if this report was in "real time", it would be days, if not weeks between posts![]() Let the good folks update when they have time, rather than pressure a "rush report" on what is an epic trip! More time they take is sharing, the better I say! (uh, to a degree Our job as spectators and admirers will be to decrease the bongo jokes, and "witty" one liners listed under reposted pic after reposted pic, which DOES affect the very modern way that this report is being shared with us. Thank you for sharing Team Sibirsky, members new and old! Much apprecitated for both entertainment, and for guidance/learning experience factor! MFS |

Day 71 - to Olkhon
We woke by our Baikal campsite and Geir and Steve packed up ready to head back into the bike shop in Irkutsk to collect Steve's tyres. Erik, Terry and I would take our time and take a short cut through Irkutsk, and wait for the guys somewhere on the north side of town.
Geir and Steve rode off bright and early ... then two minutes later Geir returned with the fateful words ... Houston we have a problem. He had snapped a clutch cable. I had a spare clutch cable and offered my spare to Geir. We decided Erik would now accompany Steve to the tyre depot, while Terry, Geir and I took our time, packed up camp and replaced Geir's clutch cable. With 4 of the 5 bikes in the group now being BMW X-bikes (up from 3 out of 5 in the Stage 2 group), we were all an easy source of spare parts for each other. So while Erik and Steve were stuck in unpleasant summer Irkutsk traffic, The rest of us cruised into a chicken joint on the north side of Irkutsk on the road to Olkhon Island and waited.

availability of unleaded fuel
enjoying your report very much
![]() ![]() one question - according to some info (http://www.unep.org/transport/pcfv/P...ruary2009.pdf) there should be no problem to find unleaded fuel in Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Siberia. ![]() Any comments how well that corresponds to the reality? |

Its all unleaded. At least 2/3 of the cars on the road there are modern European or Japanese cars - which only run on unleaded. So a modern European or Japanese motorcycle will also have no issues.

I hope its not too much of an annoyance to quote back a few pages, as I catch up, but this image floored me.
Thank you all so much for this RR.

Crash bars not ideal for the trip?
Colebatch - Except for the weight factor, why else would you describe crash bars as 'not ideal for the trip'?

I read that as the F800 was not ideal for the job, not the crash bars.
