Teutonic qsl 1000 mile seat spring

I have only the seat for a Teutonic QSL 1000 Mile Solo Seat and am trying to make a bracket to fit my BMW R75/5.

I am lacking the spring.

Does anyone have any information on these springs?

What type/size of spring?

Where to get one?

Have one for sale?

Darned things are near impossible to find. I've had three different QSL seats, luckily with springs. The spring is an odd ball "mouse trap" looking affair.
I've seen two different types of mounts. One was a little unstable. The one I'm currantly using was the better of the two designs.

I could pull my seat and take some photos of the suspension assembly if that would help.

The bracket is pretty simple....slides into the frame back bone tube, then clamps to the sub frame cross member. You'll lose your tool tray in the process as it needs to be removed for the mount to fit.
You could probably build a rigid mount and delete the "mouse trap" spring, or come up with some sort of alternate method.

I teamed up with a fabricator acquantance a few years ago and we toyed with the thought of reproducing some "knock off" QSL seat assemblies. He thought the spring would be the toughest thing to reproduce.

I had a few of there seats before. I had a spring break on one of them, but I had a back up seat..so I was good. I had put them sidecar rigs useing 60's /2's with /6 drivetrains in them. I have been thinking a QSL 1000 might not be bad on my GSA.

Anyway.. Maybe some how you could use a car motor mount to take the place of the spring...

While I was at an antique tractor show I had a "bright " idea.

Tractor seat spring!!

They're too big,but,a lawn tractor seat spring might work.

I just received my IH Cub Cadet 582 seat springs from Ebay and will report back....Al

here is a picture.
the height was my main concern so the seller measured for me, 2" which I think is about right.
I can cut to length and I am going to put the springs side by side with space enough between them for the seat bolts to fit so I adjust the seat back and forth
That is the plan.
Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome,I'd rather measure twice and cut once ....Al

these aren't the ones I bought but, close, and the picture is bigger.

there are plenty of 2 inch Enfield type coil seat springs to mount on the back if needed..Al

If you use high grade steel and don't weigh 300 lbs. those oughta work....maybe even better than the originals that have a tendency to break.

I smart metal person could make them out of mild steel and then temper them so they wouldn't break.

I broke mine years ago, couldn't find one so I welded it back together. Springs are cheap, setup on a winding machine is the money. A Ural rubber seat or sidecar suspension unit would work. I heard that a Volvo motor mount could work. I looked at a couple of farm equipment places, but no help.

I tack welded my QSL seat frame and will soon be fitting the spring on it.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I thought I'd pass along info on a company called Phast by Phillips that is making repop seat springs for the 1000 mile Teutonic Seat:

Thanks for the link. Not too many options to replace the original part.
Luckily mine is still "hanging in there" after all these years / miles.
