I had a couple of friends who asked me what they should do about outfitting themselves for a trip to Alaska. I gave them some suggestions, and decided to do a bit-o-looking myself, as that was the sort of thing that I might like to try. I remember Googling "Alaska motorcycle trip" or some such thing and stumbled on this place. Glad I did, too, as I've learned a shitload of stuff, and met a few people who will be friends for life.
We've got a very good thing going here. ![]() Thanks Baldy!!!

Can't quite remember, but it was a google when I was looking for a BMW F650 and some trip reports came up. Trip reports, baby.

I used to use the Hubb a fair bit for researching my trips.
As I recall, after crossing Tibet on my Hotian 150cc, I was looking for a bike for my upcoming S. America trip. I wanted a bike like a BMW GS that was more reliable and cheap to maintain (ie: a Japanese bike). On the hubb, I found out about the Transalp and the Yamaha XT 660. I then typed all these bikes into the google and up came the beasts forum. I lurked awhile and then joined soon after.

Doing some research on GPS systems at work (big stuff, not the run-of-the-mill consumer level receivers, i'm talking about a big rack mounted system capable of extremely precise timing) and wondered why a motorcycle forum kept popping up in the search results.
This wasn't long after I bought my KTM... started looking around and realized the people here do exactly the kind of riding I bought the bike for. And oddly, it pointed me in the direction for the GPS questions I originally had.

A couple of my co-workers invited me to Death Valley Daze a few years ago. At night, all the drunken FF's would yell ARrrrrrrrrrrrr! back and forth across the Furnace Creek campground. I asked what it was, and was told it was an online group of some sort. Searching the net for info about my bike, I repeatedly ran across advrider.com as the best source of info. I've been hooked ever since.

I followed a link on ThumperTalk and had seen the site a few times. Then, I bought me a used BMW K1200rs and started coming here regularly.
Now, I have 5 bikes and have apparently caught the virus thats going around here. My garage looks like a bikeshop and I have dreams of making it look like a sterile, bike surgery museum/man-cave. ![]() FYYFF's

Was over on BMWLT and was intrigued by all the polly pissy pants who got sand in their manginas over the rude behaviour on jomomma.
Figgered I better have a look.

Looking for info on a specific bike..
I ran across this while doing some on-line research for my next bike. There was a link to a thread here and now I'm hooked. I've seen the decals for a few years and always wondered what they meant. I never knew there was a site for this type of riding. Great stuff in my book.

After I bought my now departed R80 G/S back in 2001 the parts manager at my local BMW dealership who I had become friendly with told me about this site and suggested I check it out to learn more about my R80.
That has been 12 years and I still haven't been kicked out! Rick G

A guy on another motorcycle forum posted a bunch of pics of those crazy Weber boys riding Harleys with car tires up in some Colorado mountains.
