Try this website if you haven't already - pretty specific information about what you need if you are going to ship the bike. Written by a couple who quit their job last year and intend to drive the world in their VW. Lots of info on the ferry that wasn't to be. Their last up date was in July - but you might be able to email them and ask what to do. I'll continue to look around for you on my end. Sounds like you are going to have to ship the bike via container. May delay you a few weeks, involve some backtracking - and cost $$$.

Well it looks like I have a boat to Colombia. It is on the sailboat Independence. I don't know anything about it other than it cost me $900 and it leaves on February 21st. This puts me way behind schedule but that is ok. I think it will be for the best in the end. This way, I can spend more time enjoying Costa Rica and Panama. Plus I won't feel rushed in Colombia and Peru.
Patagonia will have to wait. But I will see it one day......just not this year

900 !for me and the bike
And the gsa is a perfect bike for what I am doing
It is a big bike that only feels heavy when I am making a u turn
Also, in the deep sand
I was riding on a road along the beach yesterday and it was hard packed sand
But an oncoming car forced me in to the soft deep sand and things got interesting
I stayed on the gas and the bike was wiggling around quite a bit but I made it back on to the road without a problem.
If I would have let off the gas or tried to stop, I would have crashed for sure

After 27,000 miles, I replaced the rear brake pads this morning by the pool at the hostel. The front pads are doing fine. I am still carrying a full set of pads so I should be good for another 27,000 miles.

Man, I saw your bike parked at Playa Hermosa. I am from El Salvador and went to San Juan del Sur last week for vacation. Also spotted another guy in a KTM 990 with NY plates riding around, but I did know who he was. Nice to see the bike around.

Have you thought of looking into a week or two of Spanish immersion class? I am so lame at speaking Spanish that I thought of hitting a program in Mex for a couple weeks, it's gotta be helpful....

The guy on the KTM is an Israeli guy living in NY. He is doing North America and Central America
Good guy
I have bumped in to him a couple of times so far

I know it would help and it is a good idea, but the thought of sitting in a classroom when I could be sitting on my motorcycle or better yet......the beach......keeps from ever doing it

After spending 2 months of under-utilized resources (all accommodatios, restaurants have been been open and sometimes empty), I didnt think it would be so difficult to get to Colombia. I think I am have a place on a boat called the independence. I booked it thru Captain Jacks
I am waiting for a response from them to confirm my reservation.
The date for my crossing is the 21st of February. That means I have a month to kill in Costa Rica and Panama. Not such a bad thing. But I think it does mean that I wont be able to make it to Patagonia before winter. And that bums me out but it also doesn't put the pressure on me to make time to get down there quickly.
I just need to plan one day at a time. Because, in the end, everything changes.....nit fault to yourself. You just need to be flexible and roll with the punches.
