1995 KTM 250 Help
Hey guys, this is my first time posting but Im always looking at the cool ride reports so I appoligize if I post this in the wrong spot. Well here is the issue.
I Found a 1995 KTM 250SX for $500. its actually very clean cosmetic wise. and seller states that the motor was completly rebuilt. (Top end and Bottom end) he did say that it does need a stator to be running again, Which I found a good used one at a local KTM shop for $120. I went by and took a look at the machine and it had good compression and kicked over just fine. when I kicked it, the piston went through the motion inside the motor. but it almost sounded like it was blowing air out somewhere and sort of a slap noise. anybody know what Im talking about or had the same kinda issue? if so what am I looking at as far as parts? should I even bother buying? I really do like this era KTM and they are typically hard to find. some input would be great. |

This will be bumped to the smoking section any minute. A 95 no spark KTM 250 is a hundred dollar bike at best. $120.00 for a used stator?????
Ever notice those signs that read " NO RETURNS ON ELECTRICAL ITEMS "Save yourself and walk away.

I'd sign up at ktmtalk.com and spend some time at the "oldies but goodies" section. The expert are there, and will give you solid advice.

Ah,yes the 95 had the dreaded S.E.M. Swedish built stator/flywheel/coil,not the most reliable ignition in the world,Ive had 2 KTM's with SEM's and both crapped out ignition wise while fairly new.
Hard to find new parts and hard to find someone to rewind the stock stator,if you dont know much about 2 strokes maybe find something a shade newer. KTM went to Kokusan ign in 97. No mas problems.
