I have been a fan of Toyotas especially their trucks, currently have a 1996 5spd, 4cyl, 2wd Tacoma with almost 309,000 miles and an 2007 4x4.
The 96' I just drove coast to coast in August putting on 8400 miles in nearly 3 weeks and even up Pikes Peak in Colorado - it never missed a beat! I have been thinking of getting a Tundra as I could use a full size truck and also I have heard they are coming out with a re-design for the 2014 model.

i'm not against or bashing the guy. i'm just REALLY trying to point out, if you can't tow a reasonable load with a 5.7L tundra something is broken.
those things are beasts. when we're building houses/developing land we move a 7000lb bobcat+trailer around between worksites with either a '90 GMC 1ton body (and a 91 GMC 350 v8), or a '99 4.6L f150 (stock). not fast, but they move it & do so on the interstate. The 4000-5000lb boat above you can haul ass with the 5.7L Armada (same basic power output as the 5.7L 3UR-FE tundra, but with a final drive for cruising). so something is wrong & i hope the guy get's it resolved. I never said it wouldn't pull it. I said it gets horrible gas mileage and doesn't hold enough to begin with.
It has tons of power. It is a lot faster than my ford was. No doubt. I'm talking about a 5000lb load. 7.8 mpg at 72 mph is horrible. The transmission constantly hunts and the thing is wound up. The ford would pull it in top gear at the same speed getting 11.4 mpg all day long. I could run 300 miles before a gas stop. And, the ford was a 4x4 with slightly larger tires and a crew cab. I was always a fan of the toyotas and I almost bought one a few times. I'm sure it will last a long time and its certainly not a piece of crap. That said, I can't wait to get another F150. |

Do you want to ford the river?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We were sailing down the Rio Grande after previously going from hill climbs and trail riding near 'The Wall'. During some impromptu donuts in the river, the silver FJ knocked a tire bead off the front passenger rim. I happened to have a compressor in the black FJ, and he had some straps and grease. The FJ's built in power invertor powered the compressor, while we worked the bead back into place. The hi-lift wouldn't work with the silver fj (no rock rails or steel bumpers), but the factory FJ jack and a plastic lid got the rim off the ground. 20-30 minutes later (slow home depot compressor) we were back on the river and crawled out of the banks next to border patrol before dark.

[QUOTE=One Less Harley;20573601]Let's see. 4.0L V6. Fully boxed frame. Live rear axle. Same front suspension as a tacoma, but a BETTER non-leaf spring, rear 4 link with coils. Rugged interior, real transfer case instead of push button bullshit, short wheel base.
If anything I think the Tundra is not a real Toyota TRUCK. Same junk c-channel style frame that ford and chevy use, recalls a plenty, inefficient engine for it's displacement. ![]() ![]() Oh and today we climbed to the top of the Bishop's Cap valley. Actually required us to spot for a change, and the use of the lockers. The Dodge Dakota with us couldn't make it up (no lockers).

FJ's are sweet. I'd be interested in one, but I have a 03 Tacoma DC 4x4. 160k miles and she runs like a top. No need to change now.

2014 Tundra
The new 2014 revamped Toyota Tundra is making it's debut at the Chicago Auto show on 6 February. Any ideas on what the changes might be?? I am planning on buying one of thoe to replace my 1997 T100.
