Motolight Mounting
I first have to say that I think Motolights are a great product. I mounted them on a R1100RT in '99 and switched them to several other bikes until I sold a GS in '08 and left them on the bike. Motolights always took care of me replacing the old bands that mounted the lights on the forks and the seals at no cost.
OK, enough boasting. I just received a set of new Motolights for free, which is the best kind, and would like to mount them on my 990. The lights came with the brake caliper mounts but I'm not sure if I want to mount them there. Has anyone else mounted these lights somewhere else? Ideas and pictures would be great. Thanks.

I guess that few people have mounted these. I am looking at mounting them at the brake calipers but would rather mount them up under the fairing. Has anyone done this?

I've never heard of these so I had to go searching.
Found them and a few pics. I can say for sure that the caliper mounts would never last on an Adv bike of mine. Figure out a way to make them go up under the fairing.

I totally agree. That's why I'm hoping someone has them mounted somewhere else. They have a unique mount so I was asking great minds if they had a solution.

Two Mounting Options
You have two mounting option on the 990 - either caliper mount or strap mount. The benefit of mounting them lower on the bike - as opposed to under the fairing - is they increase your day and nighttime visibility, and they become a moving part of the bike so the light is going where they bike is going. This will allow you to better see the sides of the road, potholes, critters, etc.
Here's a link to their strap-mounted light so you can see what it looks like.: http://www.motolight.com/product/Str...%20Light%20Set And here's a link to their caliper mount: http://www.motolight.com/product/Cal...%20Light%20Set Good luck! Their customer service is great - you can call Tina or Dan for any help you might need. |
