Hi Kyns!

The parts for the 450 are being machined next week, and we hope to have the engine back together soon after... The plan is to bench test it to make sure the compression etc. is all good (we have computer modelled it, but there is nothing like a physical test to confirm), then we can set the final machining spec and get the piston/s and crank/s made to production quality.

I'm sure John will be along shortly to explain more about the hi-comp 690 piston (which will obviously have a different profile to the 450cc version), and what you might expect - again, the profile has been modeled on computer to give the required compression ratio, but we'd want to cut a prototype to make sure before the production batch goes ahead...

Numbers to follow, as soon as we have them! Hell, we might even make a video of the lump being tested on the dyno!

! A very brave project indeed. I remember Ludivine Puy did a Dakar with a 450 engine fitted in a 690RR chassis, but this is another story. I was thinking to go to Hellas Raid myself, but having only my DRZ available I would need full transport and assistance package, too expensive for me at the moment. Also because I'm preparing a "new" 600cc bike and won't be ready and moreover, tested, in time for the Hellas. But I'll have quite a few friends there, so I'll have anyway some first hand infos

This is very cool, it's going to be great to follow this. Just remember that orange paint and 37 clicks of suspension adjustment don't make up for being a shit rider

Does that mean you will be able to swap the bike between 690 and 450 depending which race you're going to?

Or ride it to South America with a 690 engine. Swap consumables and engine, race, then reswap and ride home.

Ok, cool.

Interesting to see how this 4 50 project compares to the factory 450rr, power / weight wise.
For sure bit more weight, but maybe not too much difference.

And good luck for your Dakar race.
