I wasn't looking at the latest version Stang or top level Camaro to be happy. The 1st gen GT500 or 1st level V8 Camaro will suit me fine. But the Stingray really seems to have my number.

The only other option that is looming is a Viper... used prices are incredible.

The 1st gen GT500's are a steal for what you get. Granted, the interior on gen II is nicer as are the suspension improvements, but you can easily find 1st gen examples with mods that the original owner had $60k in for a fraction of the price. That's what I did.

Pretty much my plan.

Really its more like wait till the C6 Z06's start hitting the lot from the guys that must have a C7 and snatch one of them. I can be very, very patient when it comes to 500hp sport cars.

Nice and patient, that is exactly how I shop my cars, even daily drivers.

18,000 mile old mans garage queen for 22K, a whole bunch of weekend fun.

Don't forget to check the Vendor's section of Corvetteforum. My C5 was discounted over 20% by Les Stanford and the three other big volume Vette dealers as soon as the C6 was announced. I had my choice of 300 on the lot. I rented a car for about $60 one way and drove the Vette home. I'm sure they are doing the same to the C6s now.
CF also showed me that many mint "garage queens" were actually built, raced, and returned to stock for trade in. There were enough guys doing that so I bought new instead.

Private party, trade in, whichever....you are buying a used car and have no idea how those miles were put on. Go look at the Forced Induction section of Corvetteforum. You will see plenty of guys putting the stock cam, exhaust, shifters, tires,...back on their cars and selling the high performance parts in the parts for sale section. I bought my first blower from a guy like that. I'm sure the second owner of his car was amazed at what great shape his stock tires were in. The pair of slicks he never saw, well good thing he didn't see them. In '03 I almost made the mistake myself until someone PMed me that the low mileage Vette I was asking about had seen many 1/4 mile passes and was only stock for a little while, and then again when I was considering buying it. I've seen threads dedicated to how to remove the rubber from the back wheel wells. Low miles sometimes = 1/4 mile at a time.

I couldn't because the used car was in Florida and I was in NY. I ended up paying the same for my discounted new one a few months later.
