I'm out for tomorrow. Going to go look at houses. Be nice to find one that backs up to a large wooded area that's ultimately connected to some power line trails...and that has a big garage for fiddling with motorcycles. And that garage should have plenty of space for shelves for motorcycle stuff, and be heated and maybe air-conditioned, and the lot should have space for a shed where I can store extra motorcycle stuff.

Oh, and I suppose there should be some sort of living quarters attached to the garage.

Hope the ride planned for sunday to the morganton, tablerock area is still on. Jeep Jeff and myself are going for sure. We will be at the BP station on the south side of I-85 at 9:15 leaving at 9:30 to ride. look forward to seeing ya'll there.

JMforPres, JeffJeep, AugieDog and I spent some quality time with our motorcycles -- respectively a BMW R100GS, BMW R1200GS Adventure, Kawasaki KLR650 and V-Strom 650 -- today up in the mountains west of Morganton. We encountered snow covered gravel roads and ice up on Old NC 105 and on Brown Mountain Beach Road.

What I learned today:

- If you have a heated vest, bring it with you when riding in the mountains, in the winter, in snow
- Buy a pair of Gerbing heated gloves for same
- If I want to ride at the front of the group, even though I am the slowest rider in the group, just power-up my GoPro Hero2. (Since I captured Larry's Big Adventure on video, no one seems to want to ride in front of me while the camera is running.)

Barring technical difficulties, a short HD video of a small portion of the 'Ice Road Bikers' Tour will be posted tomorrow morning.

Screw the living quarters. 4 bay garage with a pot to piss in would be fine by me. Wife wouldn't be too thrilled, though. Get to SC where taxes are low! You're close enough already!

For anyone interested in joining us, we will be meeting at the BP just off of I85 Exit 14, Bessemer City Rd/Rt 274. When you come down the ramp, turn left onto Bessemer City Rd/Rt274 and the BP is 100-200 yards on the left.


We are planning for a 9:30 AM kickstands-up departure from the BP. We will stop and get lunch somewhere along the route – most probably at Famous Louise’s in Linville.
