When I worked for the company, I could have bought year-old Pantera lease turn-ins for about $6000 back then. They had 351C 4V engines and what turned out to be rotten electrics.

HA! I've got one of those too (well, my 20-year-old son has it now). ~250k miles and still going strong with the original turbo.

Swedish bricks are nearly indestructible. We have a 1987 240 (non turbo) with 400K+ miles on the engine, its never even had the valve cover taken off. Original owners, has survived our babysitters, au pairs, teenage son learning to drive, and is now my teenage daughter's car.

The engine above is my 1992 740 Turbo wagon, which has about 220K miles, but has had a head gasket replacement (needed it when I bought it, so I got it really cheap).

sadly my 96 850 needs a valve job. Power, but lots of oil use and leaks. I think the POs abused the tranny. Meanwhile, I'm gonna flog the thing until it won't go no mo. Just turned 190k today running round to some geocaches!

sadly, the whiteblocks (850s, etc) are expensive to rebuild, the cost of that valve job exceeds the value of the car. best bet is finding a good motor on a car being parted out after a fender bender. my son has my 1996 turbo 850 wagon :)
