When I was searching for tents that would fit ..... I went down to REI and made them break out and setup the tent. As far as I know that is the only sure way of getting individual pole lengths although overall pack length is a strong indicator. I still have my Tadpole but use a TNF Basecamp 4 mostly...but much longer pole lengths. |

While this list may seem to advocate short poles and small tents, the information can be useful for any size tent that people would routinely put on a bike. If I was shopping for a 4-person tent that I could stand up in, I'd want to know the pole length of those tents too. I have carried 63cm, 24.5" poles on the bike, but I used a larger duffel to do so. The reason they're not in the table is that the tent is from the '90s and no longer available.

Yes, there are a few threads about making poles pack shorter. I haven't doubled the diameter, but added a few sections to get the length within my luggage size.
I will collect links to the other threads sometime, but probably not this next week.

That Half Dome 4 has had model changes. It has had a triangular door and a "C"-shaped door. The fabric panels changed as well. I don't know if the pole length changed, but I want to be careful to provide accurate information. Can you tell us what year or door shape you have? Again, thanks.

Great thread!
I have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 tent and couldn't believe the poles were anywhere near 21.5", maybe that's the Canadian version. Mine measure out @ 16.5". ![]() ![]() While I'm at it, the Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 pole measure out @ 18.5" and the Big Agnes Gore Pass 3 poles measure out @ 20" actual. |

I bought it last year on sale, thought it might be a previous years model for the big discount I received, but it says J12-070112 on the tag for whatever that's worth. My Gore Pass has a J11 serial, bought it in 2011. Seems like that means it's a 2012.
If they did change it that much, that's a good thing for us looking to have shorter poles to get the newer one. 21.5" for any of the BA brand Ultra Light version tents seems pretty long to me, but I don't have the 2010 model for sure, didn't even think they were made before 2011, but I could be wrong.

Thanks 8trackmind. I'll maintain the list for as long as people send measurements.
You also mentioned the number of poles on your Flint 2. Perhaps a useful addition.
