What make have you used?

Any comments or experiences on fitting / using them etc?

TIA.

I'm trying the KLR owner method...cus I own a KLR.

Using these Ebay uber cheapo heating elements

They cost about $6 a set shipped!

Using this to control them..

About $5 shipped

My plan is to remove the knob from the case...mount the case elsewhere and mount the knob in a convenient location.

Install the heating pads on TOP of the OEM grips...slide on the heat shrink over them that's provided. shrink it....then install grip puppies on top of that....

All the wiring will go to the factory pigtail....

Total cost under $30....

I have no idea how well this will work....but for the money its worth a shot....

Did you JB weld your doohickey?

As a fellow KLR owner you just brought a small tear to my eye.
God bless you.

Sounds like an awful idea.

For twice your investment ($60) you can buy a set of Oxford heated grips with a controller; which will undoubtably look better, feel better, and last longer than some home brewed parts project.

If I was going to install the grip puppies anyway whats the difference?? Oxford heated grips seem to have a poor reliability rating anyway....at least the controller does.

And the best part is...if it doesn't work I can put back to stock in a matter of minutes and I'm out $30....

Its a KLR thing....you wouldn't understand....

I disagree. The cheapies with grip puupies over them work great and are very simple to install and look great,

I know a lot of people that have gone this route with great success. Most of the people I know just use the manual switch and not a thermostat.

I guess, if you want your grips to be 4" thick...

Nope they are not really any thicker than if I just put the grip puppies on....the heating elements are paper thin.

As Simmons1 said.....its been done before....not breaking new ground here.

The tinkering is half the fun....

The set ups I have used the toggle switch on do not get as hot as using the dial switch.

I have a hybrid setup Oxford controller and atv heaters (note I wanted more heat on right hand) and they have been great!

i used a wire wheel to gently take the old grip of the throttle tube (plastic) the heaters are adhesive backed stuck them to the bars and tube grip glue and slide the grip on a little safety wire in the grip grouve again not too tight connected to Oxford control..
