I was very unhappy with a deka I tried a few years ago. After about one to two hours of charging my gps off the electrical system it would blow the 1-2 amp fuse in the charger. Swapped the battery for an odyssey when the deka died, and problem solved!

Just ordered a DEKA for my old KLR. My OEM battery is starting to show its age and its cranking slow this winter so for under $70.00 I figured why the heck not!? Heres hoping its like night and day! (I dont even have a cig charger on my bike so that sorta stuff isnt an issue though I wouldnt mind having at least one - I just dont have the know how.)

not sure

Has anyone else had their bank account compromised over ordering one of these batteries? I had ordered some parts from different places for a trip to california. I figured I would order some parts Id need for my bike. Battery was on top of the list. I saw this thread and ordered it a couple days ago. I realized when got to the tri state website said it had certificate warning. something about it wasn't a trusted website. I continued anyway ordering the thing thinking that the website just didn't request google chromes permission. 10 days later the battery showed up on time. I charged it bit put it in my klr and its been awesome since. But I get to work after putting my bike tire in performance cycle and check my bank account and all of a sudden the 700 I had saved for the trip was gone. Now I'm not blaming the tristate people. I've never had fraud. Its just that its the only website that I bought stuff from that didnt have the proper certification with chrome.

Old Thread Alert.

I need the battery out* of my KLR so I want a new battery to put in it.

For my KLR I'm looking at Odyssey and Shorai. 'Stich sells 'em both. I hope people will post their recent or updated experiences with Odyssey and Shorai with the KLR charging system which regulates to 14.8 or so volts. There are also LiPo batteries that have been released since the last post to this thread. Anyone have experience with other smaller batteries IN A KLR?

I'm looking for a battery with smaller dimensions. One reason I'm not just buying a Yuasa or Deka is that my battery box is not tall enough. I have 3 bikes that use the exact same battery (CB750, CX500, KLR650) and batteries that fit in 2 of the bikes don't fit in the KLR -- I can't get the slide-in lid on. There's no way for me to assemble this wrong; it's a box and a lid. It just won't go.

* I use "dead" batteries for the electric fence around the fruit trees. My current "dead" battery is too dead and I don't have another handy. Thus I'm going to spend $150 or so on the GREAT KLR and use its battery for the fence for a few years.

Thx.

EDIT: Cold-weather experience also requested. Don't ride a lot below freezing, but it happens.

Odyssey!

7 years without a moments issues. Been using them in my bikes since 2003. I have one that is from 2004 that still keeps its charge.

Bought most from, if I recall, Battery Mart in Ca. Best pricing.

Thanks. Your post from S. Texas reminded me that I wanted to ask about cold-weather starting too. That shouldn't be an issue with Odyssey though. I don't ride a whole lot below freezing, but it happens. I also hope to take a trip to James Bay before the days turn long. (Watching aurora forecasts to see if I can zip up there to the light in the night.)

It has started just fine in Texas, to CA to Jasper Alberta, BC, Nova Scotia and all over well down below freezing to many 110 +. No hesitation is suggesting it.
