You will find that there will be very few times that you will need a dealer, unless you by one of those Bavarian Motor Works bikes. You can learn all the DIY stuff from the folks on ADV.

Wrong time of the year in this area for buying/selling bikes on CL, Cycletrader, etc. Checking the Flea Market is a good place to start.

Not many out there

Don't count out DRZ or other bikes it is your starter bike get some seat time and your thoughts might change and you will be riding a Harley when you settle in but riding is riding and do it the way you enjoy!

A boxer is the easiest bike to work on so I find I need a dealer less then ever before.
