Showa is good stuff. Made in Japan = good! The Jøtul is Enduro0123's wood stove, maybe. Been shopping for one and pretty much decided on a Jøtul F600

parking lot and 183 which runs into 181 to 221 and Famous Louise's. There are a couple of trails that go West off of Old 105 and come out on OLD 221 North of Marion.........but they are pretty knarly.

Should see more of Beech.
Looks like Gualtney Rd leaving 194 out of Banner Elk going towards the development of Rocky Top doesn't it?.
That used to be gravel .............but now I believe it is hard top. However, I think we should be able to see more of Beech from those S's on Gualtney..............so I think it's elsewhere. I'm traveling, so I can't take a confirming look see. BTW: If one veers left just before the entrance to Rocky Top (after following Gualtney), that is Shawnee Rd or NC 2042 and it looks like a driveway but it's an old non maintained road and very trail like for about a mile until it dumps into Andy Hicks Rd. Andy Hicks Rd running both North and South for it's 4-5 miles is a very nice and scenic high elevation ride, with great views and dumps into Gualtney and on to Banner Elk on the south........and leads into a labyrinth of gravel roads to the North until one feeds into NC 321 and Watauga Lake area. That whole "backside" of Beech to the North has had some neat tunnel "canopy" covered gravel roads paved in the last couple years....................but there are still lots more.

just picked up my shock from Cogent Dynamics (took me a while to get it there...) and thanks to Rick I now have a rebuilt non-rebuildable shock
![]() Since it's a beautiful weekend, I figured I get the tags for the bike on Friday, put in the shock and change the fork oil Saturday, ride Sunday... yeah right. 1st snafu: didn't get tags since it's an out-of-state salvage title , so the "inspector" will come by next Thursday to check the bike out before I can go back to the tag office. Luckily I have enough comp-time to spend a day getting it all sorted out.2nd snafu: I thought it's easy . Well it would be easy, but I am an idiot and I failed to check the bearings when I took the bike apart. While greasing up all the parts I realized my tension strut bearings are shot. And I mean SHOT! - like no movement at all.![]() that may had something to do with the odd handling at times.... 3rd snafu: it's Saturday and I can't get bearings . And I can't do the forks because I need to take the weight off the front... and the ceiling-hooks are at the different spot in the shop and I got no rear wheel in to move the bike .So, I finished up with a bit of flames (always good ![]() and said: SCREW IT! ![]() does anybody near Asheville has some HK1812 bearings sitting around???

I looked at McMaster since they deliver fast, but it doesn't look like they have that size. No luck at Grainger, either. Laconic screwed with this post 03-17-2013 at 06:04 AM |
