Leg/hip armor

I'm looking for hip/knee armor. Took a nice low slide in the dirty going bout 15mph and bumped my knee. This Klim Dakar's knee protection is a joke and I suffered a nice rash still. I have a 661 knee armor from mountain biking but it's too bulky and I don't like how restrictive it is on my movement and it probably won't fit below my pants.

I'm digging the forcefield shorts and knee armor and looks like it will fit under my pants and doesn't look restrictive but it's high $$$ tag at around $200. Way too much for what I wanna spend.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I used Aerostich hard shelled hip and knee armor and cut it down a bit to fit the hip and knee pockets on the various Klim pants I wear. I had the D30 armor and it was way too small for my needs. I have fallen on dirt and rocks many times and been very impressed with the Aerostich stuff. I have used the soft hip armor in the past but the hard shelled is much better.
It's reasonably priced and comes up for sale used often.

thanks for the suggestion. I was looking for something that I can wear on my body instead of placing it in the armor area because the placement of the pads are not completely aligned with my knees.

I rock thor force knee guards... big, but they work really well and last longer than anything else i've worn. They stay put real well too.

Shorts are Tekrider's armored shorts for sno-x racing ... unfortunately they don't make 'em anymore but they come up on ebay/craigslist on occasion.

Both have been crash-tested numerous times in snow and dirt and have performed well.

I've put a lot of miles on the Troy Lee riding shorts, I think the number on the tag is 7705? I've run a few multiday/week rides on a stock xr400 seat in conditions from very hot to cold and wet, very comfortable and I've tested the hip padding just enough to know it helps, not as good as hard armor would be but the comfort is great.

^^ The knee protection in the Bohn armor pants moves too...I took the knee pads out of those and wear Thor Quadrant's over the Bohn Adv pants. Great combination of protection.

In addition to my Thor Force knee guards (previously mentioned), I wear a pair of R.E.D. (Burton) Impact (snowboard) shorts.



Mine are an older version but they serve double duty (in snow in Winter and off-pavement in Summer).
