I used to work knife shows for Balisong back around that time. When I say "work" I mean standing in a booth at knife shows flipping butterfly knives all day long. Back then there were a few good gun and knife shows in the L.A. area and Les De Asis would pay us to sell knives directly to the public. I ended up with a decent collection of knives such as yours, but also a beautiful handmade custom by Jody Sampson, who was working for Bali at the time. I remember Les and his wife Roberta as really nice people. Then these knives became illegal to sell in CA and Les moved his operation to Oregon and changed the name of the company to Benchmade. Those were some good times back then. I'll dig up the Sampson knife and post it here.

Funny story: I bought that knife when I was in the army. When I got out I was working in a bar and carried it in my messenger bag since I would come home late with gobs of cash on me. I was also doing contract legal research and had to go to the courthouse library to get something. Of course walking through the scanner I got busted for having a knife on me--an illegal knife. He asked where I got it, why I was there etc. Told me to go do what I had to do and see him when I was done. When I got back about 15 minutes later he handed me the knife back and told me to never carry it in the courthouse again. Its resided in my nightstand ever since.

Ka-Bar are nice, but if you want a RAZOR sharp fixed blade I'd go with Knifes of Alaska. You can shave with there factory sharp!

Thanks. I don't think I would care for the finger grooves in the one posted, but I see from their web site that they offer others that don't have them. I also see that they like D2 and S30V at 59-61RC and an 18-20 degree bevel. I'm sure they're crazy sharp out of the box, but it makes me wonder how tough they are. The Kabar is 1095, tried and true.

I see you put your pics of the Kabar up on Amazon. Well done. User photos are so much better for a shopper.

I agree, it is a beautiful and very well made knife. The cost was typical for this level of quality at €290 (around $400US)

Had some eBay bucks about to expire so I picked up a BK11. Provided this is good, I'll be getting the BK2 and BK9 as well. Unless someone thinks the Ontario RTAK II is worth the extra $20 and change. On the fence on that one.

Unless you REALLY need a bottle opener I'd go with the BK14.

I bought the BK2 and return it the same day, the knife is HEAVY and IMO unnecessary thick.
Bought instead the BK17 (the BK16 had a drop point like the BK2), for me those are just perfect. in size and weight. Oh, and the shield is also SO MUCH better than the BK2.

Also had the BK7, no complains there, but the knife was just to big for me.. Otherwise beautiful knife.
