Zipolite seems pretty safe. I was so relaxed today I decided to get a pedicure.

Yes Donnie, but it comes with a 2013 GS Adventure.

Hope you get this figured out! You're not really that far from Guat City in the big scheme of things

Yes, but I do have a KTM 990 Adventure at home that can be used for a replacement as well. Do you have the address for the BMW Moto Dealership in Guatemala?

I just found where I had Book Marked a Thread on a replacement pump. Now if I can find one here and hope that it it actually the problem!

Another question. I looked for a replacement fuel filter this morning and all I could find was a clear plastic unit with a paper filer inside. Will this function correctly inside the tank. It seems to me if the gas from the inside don't hurt it, gas from the outside won't. But, will it contain the fuel pressure of the pump?

Donnie, call Moto Hank on the fuel thing, as I'm sure more questions will come up when you get answers.

Moto Hank
201 N Commerce St
Dilley, Texas 78017
830-963-1203

That's his cell phone I believe.

You should also consider stopping by his shop coming or going to Mexico. His work is top notch.

BMW Motorrad Guatemala City:

Blvd. Los Próceres 4-45 Zona 10., 01010-Guatemala City, Guatemala
+502 2386 8000

If it were me, I'd truck that bike to Guat City, let them have at it, and chill in Antigua with Chris at CATours.

Subcomm (Marcos) is also in Antigua, hanging out. I can put you in touch with him if you want to kill a few days.

Really close to Guat City.

There were 20 students killed in Connecticut recently. Makes as much sense as saying that the entire USA is dangerous so a person needs to stay out of Kentucky.

That link in the quote box in your post is to a news item over 3 years old.

Like trice said, get with motohank or someone down there. But you do NOT want that plastic filter inside your tank. That filter is pressurized by the fuel pump, up to 70psi (i think). It would blow apart.

If you're lucky, the pump may still be good, but the filter is plugged with tank lining crap.

Send a thank you note to the US Gvt for putting ethanol in your fuel. The smart Mexicans don't waste ethanol by mixing it with gasoline.

Motohank isn't going to do Donnie much good in Guatemala; unfortunately.

Donnie, I think you really need a metal cased filter.

You can hear it come on when the key is turned on, but it acts like it is not getting fuel. One problem that has been found during the past few days is that the screen before the fuel pump has come apart and the red lining that BMW put inside the tank is flacking off and stopping up the screen from the inside. Is there alternative fuel pumps for this moto. I am in San Juan Ostuncalco, Guatemala. Thanks!

Donnie
Donnie, does your bike still run? How did you find out the primary filter has come apart? Did you remove the pump assembly from the tank?

If the bike runs just ride it to GT City BMW. You won't hurt anything the secondary filter will keep stuff from the injectors and any damage to the pump is already done.

If you get something other then the big $$$ BMW pump you will have to solder on different connectors. Not difficult but a little finnicky

I would consider changing the pump filter sock and the secondary meatl can filter and leave the pump.

He's willing to try to help riders diagnose problems and/or suggest solutions.

That he can do from Texas for any rider who can get to a phone or send an email.

In that sense, he just might be able to give Donnie some assistance.
